We are seeking a motivated and experienced business manager to join our friendly and supportive occupational health team. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to help us manage business processes, lead service improvement , maintain quality standards, and develop communications with our key stakeholders. We're seeking an organised and commercially minded professional that would enjoy working within a clinically led multidisciplinary team. Avon Partnership Occupational Health Service (APOHS) is an NHS service hosted by UHBW, in partnership with North Bristol Trust & Sirona care & health. We provide a specialist service to the local health community in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire as well as providing services to other private and public sector organisations in the local and surrounding areas.

This is an exciting time to join our service as we take forward a new strategy to ensure our NHS people are safe, healthy and protected in their roles. We know that looking after their health and wellbeing in turn has a positive impact on the quality of patient care they can give. This post will be central to realising our vision by providing a high quality business support function focused on innovation and collaboration with our stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

The postholder has overall responsibility for the occupational health service business function. Specifically the post holder will:
  • Ensure high quality business administration and information management are delivered to optimise performance and efficiency, proactively engaging with other key strategic and corporate requirements of NHS partners and external customers.
  • Lead strategic programmes of work which are designed to bring about transformational change, working alongside clinical and operational colleagues to drive forward service improvement initiatives using project management methodologies
  • Oversee and monitor performance against national quality standards to ensure that standards are exceeded and accreditations retained.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies, to promote occupational health services and engage internal and external stakeholders.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Educated to Masters level in relevant subject or equivalent level of relevant experience in business and operational management
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and leadership development


Desirable

  • Postgraduate project management, business and/or financial management qualification


Knowledge sand Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in a senior management role within the NHS or healthcare sector
  • Evidence of business management knowledge and expertise
  • Experience of leading, managing and developing teams
  • Experience of delivering successful service improvement projects, from initiation to completion, using project management methodologies
  • Experience of providing accurate, comprehensive performance reports for a range of audiences including senior leadership teams
  • Strong understanding of the national policy context in relation to NHS staff health and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of UK data protection law and data security management
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance relating to contract management and procurement


Desirable

  • Experience of working effectively in a clinically led multidisciplinary team


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts effectively in writing and verbally to a wide range of audiences including senior managers and external commercial customers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to form positive relationships and coach proactively and cooperatively at all levels
  • Ability to review and create contract documentation
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Highly skilled user of a range of IT applications and systems, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to act autonomously and manage a range of complex projects simultaneously
  • Ability to design and undertake audits and research to develop service improvements
  • Ability to determine priorities and deliver outcomes to deadlines


Desirable

  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms
