An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Countess of Chester Hospital for a Staff Nurse on Ward 54/56 - Elective and Emergency Surgery

Ward 54 is a 27 bedded Elective Surgery Unit based next to Ward 56 which is an 11 bedded Emergency Surgery Unit, specialising in ENT and Urology. We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic Registered Nurses to join our joint Nursing Team.

The successful candidate will continue to develop skills of clinical reasoning, and supervision in a supportive, caring and friendly environment, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care is maintained, you will enjoy the excellent ethos of multidisciplinary working to ensure effective and efficient patient flow.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for kind, caring, and compassionate individual to work with our existing team in our 27 bedded and 11 bedded surgical unit.

Ward 54 works closely with other areas of the elective footprint including the Jubilee Day Surgery Unit and the Theatre Assessment Lounge. It is one of the most exciting fields of Nursing to be part of and we would love you to join us here at The Countess of Chester Hospital. We have a well-established surgical Nursing Team.

As a nurse with experience, or if Newly Qualified, you will find support from our established and varied team. We would love you to be part of improving the overall experience for our patients. Being a nurse on Ward 54/56 is an exciting opportunity to work alongside other multidisciplinary professionals with the aim of delivering the best possible care

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

• The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
• Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
• Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £23 (standard) or £43 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Qualifications

Essential

• NMC Registered Adult Nurse
• Newly Qualified Nurses - Will complete the Trust's Preceptorship programme within the first 6 months of contract
• Mentorship & Assessing qualification (or acquired following Preceptorship & after 12 months in post)

Desirable

• Post-registration qualification or evidence of further study
• Relevant speciality qualification (may be required for certain practice areas e.g. Critical Care)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Development of Speciality Knowledge
• Basic knowledge of professional & NHS issues
• Basic IT skills in word processing/Hospital systems
• Understanding of quality change in a clinical setting
• Basic knowledge of professional & NHS issues

Desirable

• Post-registration experience in a Clinical Setting
