An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Cardiac Physiologist, based in our purpose built unit at Peterborough City Hospital, with planned rotation to our other site, including the planned CDC, due to open in July 2025.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and motivated Senior Cardiac Physiologist to join our friendly team, supporting our angiography and pacing lab, to develop skills in CRM follow up and to take a senior role in ambulatory monitoring and exercise testing services.
You will need to have excellent communication skills with the ability to work both as part of a team and independently, along with a sound knowledge of cardiac anatomy.
The department offers a comprehensive range of non-invasive investigations including ECGS, ambulatory monitoring and Physiologist led exercise tolerance tests. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery and organisation of these services.
Suitable applicants will have completed a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent) and be RCCP or AHCS registered and have current experience in ambulatory monitoring and exercise testing as well as meeting the requirements detailed in the person specification and job description.

The cardiac physiologist shall, at all times, act in such a manner as to justify public trust and confidence to safeguard the interest of individual patients.

To expertly perform a range of the following procedures in accordance with established policies and professional codes of practice ensuring high standards and optimal results:
12-lead ECG performance and interpretation,
Exercise Tolerance testing responsible for leading the test ensuring test appropriateness and safety. (The post holder will supervise junior staff when competency has been demonstrated),
Tilt-table testing,
Ambulatory ECG monitoring 24-, 48- and 72-hour and event recorder fitting and analysis,
Ambulatory BP monitoring fitting and analysis,
Right and Left heart cardiac catheterisation (with O saturations as required),
Permanent pacemaker and Loop implantation,
Supporting pacemaker follow-up clinics.

- Plan and implement cardiac non-invasive diagnostic procedures without direct supervision, including the setting and monitoring of standards
- Provide specialist ECG and ambulatory monitoring training and act as departmental clinical educator to support the development of junior staff

Education
Essential
- BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology or recognised level of qualification in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement)
- Registered or working towards registration with RCCP/HCPC
Desirable
- Accredited or working towards BHRS (formerly HRUK) exam or IBHRE
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- At least 2 years experience as a qualified Cardiac Physiologist
- Ability to develop and manage other trainee and junior cardiac physiologists within a mentor group system
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to perform, report and supervise Physiologist led Exercise ECG tests, Ambulatory and resting ECG's
- Hold a current ILS certificate
- Good degree of knowledge/clinical acumen in related medical fields
- Evidence of continuing professional development across a range of specialist clinical techniques and fields

- Proficient in implantation and follow-up of pacemakers and loop recorders
- Proficient in undertaking Tilt Table Testing
