Due to a promotion for the current post holder, we have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8a psychologist to join our Forensic Psychology Team. The successful candidate will be based within the women's low secure service at our Leeds site, Newsam Centre. It provides assessment treatment and rehabilitation for women with complex mental health needs linked to their offending behaviours. The service takes a trauma-informed approach to understanding service user's presentations and risks, formulating behaviours as driven by unmet needs, and informing a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to treatment with a focus on recovery. There is also a forensic outreach and liaison service that the successful applicant will input to, supporting transitions from the ward to the community.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist psychological services to the staff and service users on the low secure womens ward and forensic community team. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and treating their own specialist caseload of clients and to maintain associated records. The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other psychologists, assistant psychologists and other professionals within the service. They will provide leadership to the psychology team on the site they are based. They will have the skills and experience to work autonomously and make appropriate decisions without opportunity to consult more widely at times. The post holder will conduct psychologically informed risk assessments and formulations alongside the MDT and will support staff to develop appropriate forums for case discussions, team formulations, and reflective practice. The post holder will undertake audit, research, and service development projects across the whole service.

Job responsibilities

Leeds and York Forensic Services are looking for a highly motivated Band 8a psychologist. The successful candidate would join our enthusiastic and supportive Forensic Psychology Team working in low secure services at our Leeds site. This post will be mainly based on our womens inpatient pathway (mixed assessment/ treatment and rehab ward), whilst providing some input into the community and consultation service. There are also opportunities to work into our mens pathway depending on the personal and professional clinical skills and interests of the candidate and service needs.

As the successful candidate you will join a respected and valued department. Through a mixture of direct clinical work and indirect interventions, you will use leadership skills to promote and help embed the service-wide clinical model of Trauma Informed Care.

We are passionate about supporting teams and services to be psychologically-informed, maximising therapeutic potential and proportionate risk management. The successful applicant will be committed to working within an MDT environment and adapting interventions for people with complex, diverse needs, who pose a risk of harm. They will share the teams service-user-centred approach promoting collaborative risk assessment and formulation accounting for links between trauma and offending behaviours.

You will join a team with varied theoretical backgrounds. We would particularly welcome applications from those with skills in (or wishing to develop their skills in) NICE recommended trauma interventions. We have close links with local doctorate courses and contribute to teaching and training placements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent prior to 1996) and HCPC registration
  • Additional significant post qualification training relevant to the service and job role outlined in the job summary.
  • Formal training in supervision of others.


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience in an area of practice relevant to the service specified in the job summary, to include assessment of risk.
