Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy - Specialist Psychotherapies Service ( SPS) Part Time (0.4 WTE)
We have an exciting opportunity for aConsultant Medical Psychotherapist to join our established Specialist Psychotherapies Service at BSMHFT. You will be supporting us in delivering and developing high quality therapy services for patients with complex attachment trauma and emotional needs who reside across Birmingham and Solihull.
We are looking for someone who has training and experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy and an understanding and an interest in Compassion Focused Therapy. The post offers the opportunity to be involved in our Therapeutic Day Programme, as well as individual and other group therapy.
You will be joining a well-established psychodynamic, tertiary level service that has been providing therapeutic services for over thirty years, for people with complex and enduring emotional difficulties.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of people committed to providing and maintaining high quality and compassionate care and supporting staff in applying psychodynamic ideas to their work through the provision of supervision, consultation and training.
Main duties of the job
As a service, we provide group and individual long term psychotherapy for up to 2 years. This includes a compassion focused group psychotherapy programme, a therapeutic day programme, analytic group work and individual psychotherapy.
We also provide supervision, reflective practice , consultation, link work and training to staff across the trust and you would be expected to contribute to these activities as needed with a focus on the clinical provision in SPS.
As a Consultant within the team you will be expected to contribute to forums within the service and be involved in clinical decisions at point of referral, assessment and interventions. There will be opportunities to take part in both individual and group work interventions with our service user group.
You may also be involved in projects that are aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of our service to our diverse Birmingham population.
You will be supported in this post through clinical supervision, reflective practice and line management arrangements. This position will be based at Callum Lodge in Winson Green, although travel to other sites on occasion may be required.
There will be opportunities to work with colleagues across the trust on specific projects and there is an option to be part of the on call rota system.

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983)
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Medical Psychotherapy or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development.
- Assessment of complex patients for psychodynamic and other psychotherapies
- Delivery of multiple forms of individual and group psychotherapy to patients including those diagnosed with personality disorders
