Senior Staff Nurse (Paediatric Emergency Department)

We are seeking to recruit individuals to join our existing team of paediatric nurses. The Paediatric Emergency Department is a vital component of the trust this post is aimed at maintaining our strong leadership team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. We strive to deliver high quality care to our patients 24 hours a day.

The senior team is committed to providing high quality care for all of the patients and developing and leading all nurses in the Emergency Department. The role will include weekends twilight shifts and bank holidays. Full local induction and competency-based training is in place.

Main duties of the job

Working as Senior Staff Nurse in the Paediatric Emergency Department alongside the senior ED nursing team.

Providing senior oversight to the Paediatric Department and supporting the Band 7 with management responsibilities of the team.

Ability to promote patient centred care and establish good relationships with patients andcarers.

To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

To be able to take charge of the department in the absence of senior staff.

To act as a lead nurse in an emergency or Trauma in Resus.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current registration.
  • Possession of degree or in the process of obtaining.


Desirable

  • Assessing & Mentoring qualification.
  • NVQ Assessors course.
  • ATLS (observer) course or other recognised trauma course. ILS, ALS, PALS.


Experience

Essential

  • Substantive experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience of supervising and assessing students.


Desirable

  • Previous experience in the relevant specialty
  • Previous ward management experience.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing.
  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice Awareness of cultural needs
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills
