Job Details

We are really excited to be offering motivated and experienced community practitioners a partnership band 6 role that is jointly funded by NSFT and Children's Social Care. This role is a new initiative to work with adults who have parental and carer responsibility of children who are receiving support from Children's Social Care, and who require Mental Health support.

Successful candidates will be employed by NSFT with an identified supervisor but hosted within the Intensive and Specialist Support Service in Children's Social Care. Clinical direction and oversight will be provided by NSFT with operational support and case identification being provided by Childrens Social Care.

Whilst experience working with Social Services or with adults in the context of safe parenting would make you perfectly suited to this role, we are really open to welcoming dedicated mental health professionals with either Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy qualification.

Main duties of the job

This role will provide assessment and triaging, signposting to appropriate support and short-term intervention to parents and carers of children to ensure that those adults receive the right mental health support at the right time to enable them to care for their children. Interventions will predominantly take place in families homes and referrals will come from Social Care workers.

You will work within the Intensive and Specialist Support Service which has been developed to support children and families who have an allocated Family Practitioner or Family Assessment and Safeguarding Team Social Worker. The service is designed to work with families who need specialist or intensive intervention and support to prevent them from escalating from Family Support to Child Protection or becoming Looked After, and to help children return to their family networks where it is safe to do so.

The Intensive and Specialist Support Service is made up of:
  • Home Based Support Workers, providing practical parenting support and advice;
  • Intensive Support Workers, helping complex children and families to change;
  • Domestic Abuse Workers,
  • Child and Family Therapeutic Workers,
  • Dads Matter Facilitators,
  • Substance Misuse (Think Family) workers, providing specialist substance misuse support and interventions to adult parents and carers.

Diane Hull - NSNHSFT

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups'. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services.

Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services.

We have inpatient facilities across both counties with smaller bases in rural locations. Many of the Trust’s services are offered in the community, enabling people accessing services to receive the support they need in an environment familiar to them.

At NSFT we believe in recovery and wellbeing, and understand the importance of good physical health, maintaining relationships and achieving a balance between treatments and continuing an active life.

The people in our care, families and carers are at the centre of all aspects of all we do and are vital in helping shape and support our service strategy. Our strategy supports and enables people with mental health problems to live a fulfilling life and make their personal recovery journey.

Norfolk and Suffolk, in the East of England are some of the safest places to live in the UK, with low crime rates making it a community to be proud of. Housing prices are frequently cited as a reason to move here, as you get an incredible amount for your money compared with other major UK cities.

About our location

Norwich in Norfolk has something for everyone. It has retained a strong local identity and, with that, a sense of community. Locals say hello to each other, baristas remember our coffee orders and you’ll be among the first to know about interesting local projects.  This strong sense of community, along with excellent shopping, eating out, affordable house prices and excellent schooling is why Norwich has been ranked by the Guardian as the UK’s best city to work in.

Ipswich in Suffolk is steeped in history, yet full of life. According to The London Economic, affordable house prices and hourly commutes to London have earned Suffolk’s county town a slot in their top ten property destinations. “In Ipswich we have got a fantastic cultural offer far better than what towns and cities bigger than us are offering.  We have got very good transport links, especially to London, and house prices are a lot cheaper in the area.

One of Norfolk’s most famous stretches of beaches, Great Yarmouth attracts around six million tourists each year! Situated at the mouth of the River Yare, this old port town is home to beautiful golden sandy beaches and neighbouring towns and villages with scenic views and homely charm.

Full to the brim of history and with a vibrant town centre, King’s Lynn is the ideal destination to enjoy the superb mix of history, shopping and entertainment on offer!  A small, historic market town, King's Lynn is the perfect place to live and work, with fantastic train links and short drives to fantastic beaches.

Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is a unique and dazzling historic gem. An important market town with a richly fascinating heritage, the striking combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and glorious cathedral and abbey gardens provide a distinctive visual charm. With prestigious shopping, an award-winning market, plus variety of attractions and places to stay, Bury St Edmunds is under two hours from London and convenient for Cambridge.
