An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and driven Occupational therapist to join the Acute Therapies Orthopaedics Team at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospitals.

You will work closely with a team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy technicians at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospitals to deliver specialist therapy services within the Orthopaedic team.

You will be an essential part of the large multidisciplinary team and part of the wider inpatient therapy team. Our well-established team works closely with counter parts in MSK and Elective Orthopaedic Centre (Central Middlesex Hospital) to innovate, share knowledge and embed good practice.The successful applicant will have significant experience at band 6 level in occupational therapy treatment/ management of Orthopaedic conditions and be able to demonstrate leadership qualities and management acumen.

You will have an opportunity to work alongside Clinical Specialists in Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy to develop and support the rest of the team in delivering high quality services and service improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, taking a lead in coordinating and providing a highly specialist occupational therapy service to patients within Inpatient Orthopaedics.

Provide assessment and treatment for patients with a wide range of complex physical, sensory, perceptual and cognitive problems within inpatient settings

Manage their own caseload working alongside the multi-disciplinary team and other external agencies to ensure highly specialist treatment plans.

Work collaboratively with patients, carers and with colleagues in health and social services to ensure effective service planning, policy and delivery of services to their specific patient group.

Be the joint lead therapist for this area of service and represent the department at relevant meetings both in and outside the Trust.

The post holder will contribute to departmental meetings, and lead complex audit and regularly undertakes research activities in specialist area.

Take responsibility for planning and delivering highly specialist training to other OTs, professionals and patient/carers on all aspects of sensory, perceptual, physical and functional skills.

Education/ qualifications

Essential

  • oDegree or diploma in Occupational Therapy oState Registration with HPC oMin 4 years' experience working as an Occupational therapist in NHS in relevant field oStudent supervisors' course


Desirable

  • oMembership of specialist group in relevant area of work oLeadership course


Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • oEvidence of knowledge and application of specialist assessments, management and outcome measures in line with current best practice in OT in Orthopaedics in an acute hospital setting oEvidence of theoretical and practical learning in previous posts leading to highly specialist level within the specialty. oEvidence of managing own caseload (punctuality, prioritisation and time management) oExperience of supervising / managing / developing junior / therapy technicians / assistants through IPR and teaching. oExperience of proactive involvement in service development and deputising for team lead. oExperience of supervising student placements. oExperience of audit/ service improvement


Desirable

  • oExperience in resource management and service development
