An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Special Needs School Nursing Team within Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust.You will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic RN child, RSCN trained nurse ideally with some special needs school nursing experience, wishing to expand your knowledge and skills of working with children with additional and complex nursing needs. You will work as a member of the Children's Complex Needs Nursing Service to provide skilled evidence based care to the children within the special needs school setting and undertake responsibility for the coordination and orchestration of patient care.You will work within one of the specialist schools within Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust and will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care for all clients within the special school with support from the senior special needs school nurses and the team leader for special needs school nursing.You will work with education partners in addressing health needs in designated schools and contributing to the Education, Health and Care Plans.You will be responsible for the training and updating of education, staff using evidence based competency training packs, to carry out procedures which include administration of medication, enteral feeds, tracheostomy, suction, oxygen.

You will lead on the Initial Health Assessment and drawing up of care plans and work in partnership school staff, parents and carers in there implementation.Contribute to the public health agenda through Personal Health and Social Education and health promotion activities.You will work alongside the Senior Special Needs School Nurse in order to identify children in need and children in need of protection working in partnership with the families and initiate multi agency working where necessary and to take on-going responsibilities e.g. Lead Professional within the Common Assessment Framework as appropriate. Participate in report writing and attendance at Safeguarding Conferences, Reviews and Core Group meetings with support from the senior special needs school nurse. It is essential you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work in partnership with the child's parents', teachers and other health care professionals, offering support and advice to education staff on health related issues that affect the children within the school setting. It is essential you can work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.The ability to meet the travel requirements of the post and travel to various locations across the network is essential.
