We are an integrated Children and Young People (CYP) Community Nursing Service providing specialist nursing care to CYP with complex physical health needs. This includes Community Children's Nursing , special school nursing and respite provision. Significant investment in our Special School Nursing team means we are looking for several new posts to support the growing number of CYP with complex health needs in Coventry's special schools. This post is for an experienced children's nurse/ learning disability nurse with extensive children's experience. The post will act as a senior nurse the five special schools the service supports facilitating the team of nurses and carers to meet the complex physical health needs of pupils in school.

Extensive experience of working with children or young people with complex physical health needs is essential ideally in a variety of settings but especially special schools. The post requires you to hold a children's qualification either RN Child or RGN with an RSCN qualification. Candidates who are registered LD or adult nurses and can demonstrate extensive experience working with children with complex health needs will be considered.

The post is to lead a group of nurses and carers to ensure the complex health needs of the pupils are supported whilst attending school. This will include being a point of contact for education staff as well as the multi-professional team. This will include the assessment of health needs, care planning, delegation of nursing care to non- registered professionals following competency based training.

Job responsibilities

We can offer the successful candidate the opportunity to be part of a warm and friendly team. They will be supported in the role by clinical leads, a clinical education team and clinical nurse specialists as well as the operational management and medical teams. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is already working in special schools or other community settings which are allied to special school nursing who would like gain experience in leading and developing services.

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team of nurses and carers in a special school to deliver a wide range of clinical care to pupils during the school day. Team working and especially experience in multi-agency working is essential as the post will also involve working with education and social care to provide holistic care to CYP on the caseload. The post holder will support the team leader in the overall management of the service across five special schools and act in their absence when required. A good working knowledge of EHCPs and the SEND agenda is also required along with experience in safeguarding. The successful candidate will have good communication skills, be a team player whilst being able to work autonomously when required. A sense of fun and creativity are also valuable traits. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Children's Nurse , adult nurse or learning disability who holds effective registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Evidence of on-going commitment to training
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to work towards


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working with children with complex health needs
  • Ability to demonstrate relevant effective learning from this experience


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of supporting babies, children and young people with a range of complex health needs and/or life limiting conditions
  • Ability to demonstrate a range of clinical skills e.g. skills in the replacement of nasogastric or gastrostomy tubes, suction, catheterisation, tissue viability


Other

Essential

  • Car owner/driver, or suitable alternative transport to enable you to undertake the job - and be prepared to be insured for business use. (It is unlikely that public transport will meet this requirement). If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.
