Our CAMHS West Specialist Community Team (SCT) delivers treatments to young people in theWest Berksarealiving with more complex, severe, & enduring mental health conditions.

This Advanced Mental Health Practitioner role includes:
  • Initial assessments & delivering face-to-face therapies based on unique needs
  • Collaborating with a highly knowledgeable & experienced team of psychiatrists, family therapists, psychologists & specialist practitioners
  • Participating in weekly meetings to discuss cases & coordinate care
  • Working with local agencies & community partners, with whom we have strong connections
  • You'll have demonstrable experience in CAMHS, be thoughtful & reflective, & have the flexibility to integrate into a multi-disciplinary team.

We welcome full & part time applications from 22.5 hrs/wk. Service hours are 9-5 Mon - Fri. You'll be based in Thatcham with potential for some home working.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide comprehensive assessments and therapeutic interventions to, and care co-ordination for, young people and their families, asappropriate.
  • Independently manage an appropriately sized caseload.
  • Complete risk reviews and update and advise on safety & care plans.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team as well as patients, carers, family members and internal and external agencies
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice.
  • To identify and report any safeguarding issues as they may arise.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The must haves for this role:
  • Degree qualification in relevant field and a core profession (e.g.: Mental Health Nurse, Systemic Family Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker)
  • Registration with relevant recognised professional body (e.g.: NMC, HCPC)
  • Significant post qualifying experience in CAMHS or an equivalent therapeutic setting.
  • Ability to manage complexity

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/ Training

Essential

  • Recognised and relevant qualification as below: Registered Mental Health Nurse or Registered Social Worker or Qualified Systemic Family Therapist Masters level or Qualified Psychotherapist or Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or Occupational Therapist
  • Registration with NMC or HCPC or other recognised professional body.


Continuous Professional Development

Essential

  • Evidence of continuous professional development in areas related Child and Adolescent Mental Health


Previous Experience

Essential

  • Post-qualifying experience of undertaking comprehensive assessment of mental health needs, developing care plans, and offering appropriate support based on psychological formulation of presenting difficulties.
  • Experience of working with service users with high-risk presentations and undertaking risk assessment and risk management plans.
  • Experience of hard-to-reach diverse community groups and individuals with emerging complex needs, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities and safeguarding.
  • Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Knowledge and skills to assess acute mental health crisis, and deliberate self-harm at Tier 3 levels.
  • Demonstrates up to date knowledge of legislation and National strategies and requirements for CAMHS.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others and to support others to develop key competencies.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non- professional groups.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Ability to take clinical responsibility for patient care and treatment.
  • Ability to work to timescales and comfortably cope in pressurised situations, applying practical problem-solving skills in everyday and complex situations.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a team, reprioritising work and that of others work to reflect changing needs.
