We have an exciting opportunity for band 5 paediatric staff nurses to join our team as we are expanding our workforce in the Emergency Department.

Then come and join our fabulous team of health professionals in the Emergency Department at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

We recognise that nurses are seeking a career pathway and development opportunities. Staff are supported by a Clinical Practice Facilitator and are part of a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse development and appraisal group. We are enhancing our orientation and education programme to ensure that our staff received not only the extended clinical skills and knowledge that they require but also to ensure that have the personal support to work in a challenging clinical environment.

We have a very proactive education program, within the Emergency Department to include enhanced clinical skills such as suturing, x-ray ordering. Staff are supported and encouraged to develop the many skills and knowledge required to look after our diverse patient group. Staff are also encouraged to be part of the many Quality Improvement projects that we facilitate in-house with support from the Quality Improvement Centre.

You will need to have a minimum of 6 months post registration experience and be able to evidence your own professional development.

Main duties of the job

Patient Care Responsibilities1 To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.

2 To provide holistic, family-centred and child-focussed care.

Professional Development and Education Responsibilities1 To develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/student education programmes.

2 To complete professional portfolio demonstrating reflective practice.

Research and Development Responsibilities1 To promote nursing practice in line with relevant research.

2 To maintain and promote an awareness of evidence-based practice and participate in its implementation.

3 To contribute to research and development programmes within the ward/department.

Audit, Quality and Risk Management Responsibilities1 To contribute to the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards.

2 To maintain awareness of the national, professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services. e.g Clinical Governance.

3 To uphold quality initiatives that improves 'customer care' and enhances the interface between staff, patients and visitors.

Resource Management Responsibilities1 To develop and maintain an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment, supported by written documentation where applicable.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Children's Nurse with 6 months post-qualification experience
  • Evidence of willingness to undertake courses/gain knowledge, skills and experience relevant to Emergency Care.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for own practice & behaviour.


Specific Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates an empathetic and caring approach to patients and relatives and ensure that patients' dignity & respect is maintained at all times
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
  • Demonstrates awareness of importance of working as part of a team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and written to staff, patients and relatives ensuring that communication is tailored to the person being addressed (adult and child)
