Sheffield Children's Residential

We are looking for an innovative therapeutic lead who is enthusiastic about service development and working with our children (aged 12-18 years) who live in one of our 3 residential homes.

The children's residential service is a trauma informed service the ethos is inclusive in the sense that we don't include or exclude children based on diagnosis and we are proud that we often work with young people who have struggled to engage with traditional clinic based NHS mental health services.

The relationship between practitioner and child is at the heart of all interventions, ensuring that the child feels cared for, supported and encouraged to follow their dreams.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a team who are passionate about supporting children to move onto new chapters in their life. The residential service is proud to support children when they move on, because we know thatthe relationships they have formed become a significant part of their journey. Remaining connected to our children is a huge priority, whilst also recognising that residential care is not the end destination, but this does not mean relationships are severed.

As a therapeutic lead you will have close links with our Looked After CAMH service and mainstream CAMHS teams. You will lead the trauma informed approach and work within an MDT which includes our Clinical Psychologist, speech and language therapists and residential staff. You will work closely with social care and the MDT as professionals within the homes share information and work closely together to ensure that our children receive the best level of care, bespoke to their needs.

The role involves direct psychological work (assessment, formulation, and intervention) with children, consultation across the residential homes, training and leading on reflective practice with professionals and staff members.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Obtained appropriate postgraduate qualification that enables to register with professional body as either a Clinical Psychologist (HCPC/BPS), Systemic/Family Therapist (AFT/UKCP), or Psychotherapist (ACP)

Desirable

• Supervision training and accreditation or willingness to undertake this
• Leadership training
• Specialist training in understanding and treating trauma, trauma informed care, children and young people's mental health presentations and attachment difficulties.

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working with young people with developmental trauma and their support network
• Significant experience of specialist psychotherapy/systemic or psychological assessment and formulation and therapeutic interventions with children, young people, and/or their families/carers
• Experience of working with complex risk and knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
• Experience of managing a caseload and associated professional activities under supervision.
• Experience of delivering teaching/ training and/ or supervision to other professionals.

Desirable

• Experience of the application of clinical psychology/psychotherapy/systemic therapy in different cultural contexts.
• Experienced in working in residential homes
• Experience of managing others / leading within a team.
• Experienced in working with neurodiversity
• Experience of service audit and evaluation and of demonstrating clinical outcomes.

Knowledge

Essential

• Skills in using complex methods of specialist psychological/psychotherapeutic/systemic assessment, intervention and clinical management in a range of contexts
• Ability to exercise autonomous responsibility making clinical judgements in highly complex, challenging and emotive situations interpreting Trust policies and working within professional guidelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues
• Skills in providing consultation and/ or supervision to other professional and nonprofessional groups
• Knowledge of ethical issues and commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.
• Ability to manage a workload and prioritise key tasks, and targets for intervention.

Desirable

• Knowledge of CAMHS and social care policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge and skills in working with risk related aggression, missing from home, risk of exploitation, harmful sexual behaviours.
• Knowledge of trauma informed practice
