An opportunity has arisen for a registered Dietitian to work part-time within the community inpatient units managed by Norfolk Community Health and Care across Norfolk.

Based at Thorpe Health Centre in Norwich, you will be required to travel to the inpatient units toassess and review patients referred for nutrition support including enteral tube feeding, across a variety of general and specialist community units e.g. general rehabilitation, neurological and stroke rehabilitation and palliative care, working closely with the MDT.

You will also work with the Food Services Dietitian to plan initiatives and projects to improve nutrition and hydration across all of the wards, as well as planning and delivering training to staff.

You will work as part of the inpatient dietetic team comprising a Band 5 Dietitian, Food Services Dietitian, Team Lead and Dietetic Assistant, as well as the wider Community Dietetics Team of approximately 24.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within the community inpatient units with responsibility for the dietetic/nutritional management of referred patients.
  • To assess and review patients referred for nutrition support including enteral tube feeding, working closely with the MDT.
  • To work with the Food Services Dietitian on initiatives / projects relating to catering services and actively participate in Nutrition and Hydrations Champions meetings / training.
  • To ensure the safe discharge and handover of those patients requiring ongoing enteral tube feeding in the community or ongoing nutrition support including the prescription of oral nutritional supplements as required.
  • To signpost teams to relevant policies / guidance when patients fall outside of the referral criteria.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • Current Health and Care Professions Council registration in Dietetics
  • Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism or equivalent knowledge
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills course for training student dietitians or equivalent supervising experience


Desirable

  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Member of relevant Specialist BDA Group e.g. Mental Health Group
  • Accredited BDA courses in specialist area e.g. Diabetes/ Paediatrics or equivalent.


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Experience of teaching nutrition and dietetics to patients and healthcare professionals including group teaching
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in audit and/or research
  • Good Clinical knowledge and experience in specialist area
  • Competent to use specialist equipment for anthropometric measurements.
  • Good organisational skills
  • Commitment to engage in CPD and appraisal system
  • Ability to reflect and appraise own performance
  • Ability to deal with distressed patients/relatives/carers and staff
  • Motivational interviewing skills
  • Behaviour change skills
  • Computer literate - including the ability to use Word, PowerPoint and Excel software
