The post holder will be a nursing leader in the Emergency Department, ensuring that quality and safety are delivered within the clinical environment. Strong leadership is expected to ensure that local and national standards are met and maintained. You will work within a senior nursing team and provide support and supervision to Emergency Department staff. To ensure that access to and provision of healthcare services is enhanced by the development of effective recruitment and retention practices.
Main duties of the job
To provide professional leadership through clinical expertise to the department staff. To be the lead on nursing issues relating to Trust and local agendas. When undertaking the generic department role if required to be responsible for the day to day organisation and management of the department, including the supervision of staff and the teaching of students. To continue development of management skills and experience. To promote and facilitate the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy:
a) Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice
b) Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.

Essential
- Post-registration training in speciality area.
- APLS/ALS TNCC/ATLS courses.
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
Desirable
- Post-registration qualification/ courses - preferably in specialty area.
- Clinical Assessment/Diagnostic Reasoning modules at degree or masters level
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for the practice & behaviour
- At least 2 years previous relevant clinical and management experience at Band 6 or above in an Emergency setting.
- Demonstrable experience of effective management of staff and taking charge of ward / unit
Desirable
- Evidence of involvement in service users' advocacy and complaints resolution.

- Demonstrates evidence of well-developed clinical practice. Able to advise on and implement improvements to the quality and efficiency for patients in the Unit.
