Are you a dynamic individual who is passionate about reducing inequalities within our communities? An exciting opportunity has arisen within Powys Teaching Health Board and we are looking to appoint an Equality and Welsh Language Officer to cover Maternity Absence in a friendly, dynamic and innovative Welsh Language and Equality Team. This role will contribute to ensuring that the Health Board delivers on its wider Welsh language and equality objectives and regulations, thereby helping to ensure that equitable services are offered to people in the Powys area.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a proactive individual to develop and deliver Welsh language and equality projects, initiatives and promotional campaigns. You will need to be a compassionate person with an understanding of the challenges facing minority groups and individuals within the Powys area. The role will include providing advice, guidance and support to colleagues on a range of matters involving equality and the Welsh language to ensure that fairness and equality is at the heart of everything we do.

Qualifications / Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or an equivalent academic qualification
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Welsh to diploma level 4 on the NHS Wales Welsh Language Skills Matrix
  • Demonstrate knowledge and a clear understanding of the Welsh Language Act 1993, the Welsh Language Measure 2011 and the More Than Just Words Strategic Framework and their implications for the Health Board
  • Demonstrate knowledge and a clear understanding of the All Wales Standards for Accessible Communication and Information for People with Sensory Loss
  • Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of the Equality Act 2010


Desirable

  • Relevant qualification e.g. Welsh Translation, Teaching, Training


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working within the Welsh Language and / or Equality sectors
  • Design & delivery of effective training and education
  • Experience of developing strategies
  • Project Management experience


Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience of developing educational resources and training plans
  • Experience of the delivery of policies and strategies

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills, displaying credibility and influence
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a manner which is clear, fluent, persuasive and influential
