Band 7 Ward Manager (Adult Day Surgery Unit)
**This is a secondment/acting-up opportunity for 11 months to cover maternity leave**
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as the Sister/Charge Nurse for the Adult Day Surgery Unit (ADSU), caring for a varied caseload of surgical specialties across the Planned Care Group.
We are looking for an ambitious clinical leader to play a key part in promoting professional standards, advance patient experience and support theworkforce in order to drive excellent standards of care for our patients.
The post holder will promote compassionate inclusive leadership and management to achieve high standards of clinical care, patient safety andteam development.
Leading an ethos of multidisciplinary collaboration, promoting excellence, with a can-do problem solving approach and work to maintain a highperforming team culture.
Main duties of the job
To work as an expert practitioner and is responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address thecomplex and changing health and well-being needs of the client group in his/her clinical area.
Display excellent communication and leadership skills, and is responsible for the day-to-day line management of the team for which they are responsible.
Responsible for standards of cleanliness in the clinical area and for a well-maintained Ward/Department environment. The Ward Manager is a budget holder and authorised signatory for financial and physical resources.

Job responsibilities
Manage people and financial resources to ensure the effective operation of the team for which they are responsible. Ensure effective skill-mix and appropriate caseload management at all times.
Allocate work and assess performance of the team members objectively against set criteria/competencies. Be responsible for ensuring that individual Performance Review and Personal Development Plans are completed for each staff member. Provide clear feedback to team members in a way that is conducive to maintaining and improving performance. Work closely with the employee relations team as appropriate.
Demonstrate excellent personal communication. Establish and maintain effective two-way communication channels with individuals and groups.
Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of patients and others may be infringed.
Be responsible for the standard of nursing care delivered in work area. Display evidence that staff provide holistic, evidence-based, patient centred-care.
Demonstrate that patients are involved in both decisions affecting their care and well-being and in service development. Practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and Trusts protocols and guidelines.
Be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care they give to more junior colleagues, support workers and students.
Be responsible for delivering excellent patient experience and gathering feedback from patients to drive improvement.
Be responsible for the standards of cleanliness in the clinical area and for a well-maintained Ward/Department environment.
Prioritise workload to meet targets. Ensure that Nursing and Operational Management teams are alerted to quality issues.
Be responsible for ensuring the clinical area practices within Data Protection/Confidentiality/Caldicott principles.
Actively promote diversity, including race diversity, both in the delivery of the Directorates services and in the recruitment, management and development of staff within the clinical area. Generate and sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities. Identify and take action to address discrimination and oppression.
Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interest of patients.
