Are you looking for an exciting new post in the field of adult diabetes?

With the departure of one of our Diabetes Specialist Dietitians going on an employment break, we are looking for a motivated team player to join our proactive Diabetes Team. We work in the City & Hackney area of inner East London which, with its diverse community, makes this an exciting place to work.

The post is based in the community at G.P clinics, working alongside our Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Primary care staff, in addition to supporting ante-natal groups at the Homerton Hospital. We are looking for a Dietitian who has a passion to deliver excellent clinical knowledge of diabetes into practice, empowering patients to manage their diabetes with confidence.You will also take an active part in training Dietetic Students and other staff.

Main duties of the job

You will be a member of the highly regarded multidisciplinary Diabetes Service, which includes 7 Specialist Dietitians and 18 Specialist Nurses, 3 lay educators, and more providing education and support to patients, their relatives and carers, in both individual and group settings in the community and hospital.

As a growing diabetes service meeting the needs of an expanding local population, the service provides a number of routine and specialist services, including providing multidisciplinary clinic support, dietitian and nurse-led clinics, ante-natal and pre-conception clinic, insulin pump clinic, transition clinic, virtual clinic, CGMS, emergency reviews and managing routine and urgent ward referrals. We are also a recognised DAFNE and X-PERT centre.

As a successful candidate, you will possess exemplary clinical reasoning skills, empathy and advanced communication skills. We are committed to training, supervision and audit to improve clinical skills and ensure a high quality of service provision.

Education / Qualification

Essential

  • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Qualification in area of diabetes or evidence of significant experience in diabetes


Desirable

  • Teaching qualification


Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds e.g. via advocacy/interpreters
  • Supervision of students and clinical support staff
  • Ability to work effectively single handedly with individuals and groups
  • Ability to provide highly specialised advice concerning the care of patients with Diabetes
  • Ability to take own initiative and develop skills within clinical speciality


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience of working clinically in Nutrition and Dietetics
