An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional nursing leader to join our senior leadership team in the Renal and Urology Care Group. The Head of Nursing will work collaboratively with the General Manager and senior nursing team, reporting to the Clinical Director with professional accountability to the Site Director of Nursing.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role alongside an ambitious clinical team. You will be competent at managing services across multiple sites, leading highly specialised people and empowering teams to deliver excellent patient outcomes, while continuing to develop a culture of respect and compassion in a supportive environment. You will understand how to drive performance, professional standards and improve clinical services. Significant recent experience of an acute environment with proven management and leadership skills is essential for this role, with renal and urology experience desirable.

LEADERSHIP
To support the development of and promote the Trust's mission, values, aims and objectives
SERVICE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE
In conjunction with Clinical Director, General Manager and his/her team, agree the strategic direction of the Care Group in order to align its plans with the Trust's values and principles in implementing the national policy agenda
Budgetary and Financial Management
To be responsible for the nursing budget within the Care Group, ensuring each speciality manages and has effective budgetary control
People Management and Development
Working with the Site Director of Nursing and senior nursing colleagues, to carry out 6 monthly skill mix reviews as required by the Chief Nurse/Corporate Director of Nursing ensuring the established figures meet the needs of the Care Group
Policy Development, Education, Research and Audit
In conjunction with the Director of Nursing & corporate nursing, ensure the continued development of nursing practice to take account of research and development within the framework of the nursing and midwifery strategy
Risk Management and Quality
To work closely with the General Manager, Clinical Director and Clinical Governance lead, to develop an integrated strategy for clinical governance, with a specific focus on all aspects of clinical and non-clinical risk management

1. LEADERSHIP
1.1 To personally adhere to and uphold the NMC Professional Code of Conduct at all times
1.2 To support the development of and promote the Trusts mission, values, aims and objectives
1.3 To provide clinical leadership to the Clinical Care Group, acting as a role model for best practice nursing ensuring that poor clinical leadership is identified, challenged and improved and nursing care is provided to a high standard. This will involve working clinically on wards/departments on a regular basis
1.4 To provide senior professional nurse leadership, motivation and supervision to all nursing and health care assistants within the Care Group
1.5 To provide operational and high level expert advanced practice leadership, clinical advice, teaching research, mentorship and support for staff in relation to all aspects of nursing
1.6 To work in partnership with the Site Director of Nursing and Corporate colleagues to implement the annual nursing workforce plan which integrates with the local service development plans
1.7 In conjunction with the Site Director of Nursing and Corporate nursing, participate and embed the Trusts Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.
1.8 To have a good level of understanding of the national professional nursing agenda ensuring that any national strategy relating to the Clinical Care Group is translated into operational practice
1.9 Lead on the development of and implementation of nursing policies affecting the service and wider trust
1.10 To be the subject expert, ensuring that the implications of national policy and directives are implemented within the Trust
1.11 To act as senior member of the Care Group management team ensuring nursing input into strategic and operational decisions
1.12 To act up for Director of Nursing/Operations and General Manager and to cross cover for other Heads of Nursing as required
2. SERVICE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE
2.1 In conjunction with Clinical Director, General Manager and his/her team, agree the strategic direction of the Care Group in order to align its plans with the Trusts values and principles in implementing the national policy agenda
2.2 To monitor and evaluate nursing performance across the care group and ensure submission of data to Trust wide nursing performance spreadsheet
2.4 Support quality and service improvement projects or developments programmes that contribute to the modernisation of patient services in line with the Trusts transformation and cost improvement programmes.
2.4 To be responsible for the management, professional and operational delivery of high quality clinical care across the Care Group, ensuring that patients are always treated with dignity and respect
2.5 To be accountable for and work closely with other Nursing colleagues to improve patient flows, and timely discharges
2.6 Ensure that systems are in place for assessing and prioritising nursing and clinical policies, procedures and guidelines to support best evidence based practice, and working with other corporate and nursing colleagues ensure there is a consistent approach across Care Groups
2.7 To lead on and be responsible for developing Service Plans for the Care Group in conjunction with the General Manager, Clinical Director and the top triumvirate
2.8 To lead on and be accountable for service developments within the Care Group, and to work with the Site Director of Nursing at a Site wide strategic level ensuring that current and planned services are properly coordinated
2.9 To participate at a senior level in negotiations with the commissioners and other external organisations on issues affecting the service
2.9 To work closely with others to ensure contribution to and delivery of whole service system planning and care pathway delivery
2.10 Contribute to and work in partnership with the General Manager and Clinical Director in the change management programmes within the Divisions. Ensure completion of the most complex and challenging projects to time, budget and quality targets ensuring successful implementation of programmes and initiatives which may impact the Trust
2.11 To work with the Transformation team on implementing service improvement projects, development of Cost Improvement Programmes and wider involvement in the Kings Way
2.12 To advise the Chief Nurse and others on the nursing and wider trust implications arising from national, professional and service developments

3.4 In collaboration with the General Manager and Clinical Director contribute to the budget setting process, ensuring that there processes and controls in place to ensure nursing budgets are effectively managed
3.5 To ensure that all financial resources are deployed to achieve the best outcome for the Care Group
3.6 Working with the Transformation team to identify, lead and support any CIP plans against agreed targets
