Main duties of the job
Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and inspirational midwife to join our team.
Midwives are supported and enabled to practice in the optimal environments for all elements of midwifery care for all women (and their families) to enjoy a normal birth experience. You should be an experienced midwife, able to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care and be able to work flexibly including nights and over weekends.
You will provide a full range of health education, social care and advice to women, liaising with multi-disciplinary/agency groups are to continually improve maternity care for childbearing women and their families, being responsive to the needs of the women and obtain user views as appropriate. Supporting student midwives and junior members of staff as we guide them through their professional development, and receiving excellent senior midwife support to ensure you fulfil your own potential. We understand that that happy fulfilled staff will offer their best, and we aim to achieve this through development within a supportive team approach.
The successful applicants will receive a comprehensive orientation programme and are assured that they will receive appropriate support.
This role requires shift work, including night duty. For community roles the use of a car is helpful.

The midwife has a responsibility to provide holistic woman/baby centred midwifery care this maybe leading midwifery care or working in collaboration with the multi- disciplinary team that advocates pregnancy as a normal physiological life event. The midwife will assess, plan,implement and evaluate care for the women/baby. The role will encompass taking responsibility for the management/ leadership of the ward/department/ community caseload on a shift-by-shiftbasis. To collaborate with external agencies and consumer groups.
The Midwife (Band 6) participates in the supervision and teaching of staff as well as being a Mentor/Assessor for midwifery students.

- Promote the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and young people by implementing the Trusts policy and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.
- Assess, plan implement and evaluate care women/babies for a defined caseload, using evidence to rationalise prescribed care.
- Develop link with all care agencies to facilitate seamless approach to maternity care.
- Practice within boundaries of autonomy as described by the NMC Code 2015.
- Review practices to reduce clinical risk. Record and report any untoward incidents and take action to avoid further incidents.
- Promote health and wellbeing through practice and education of women, relatives, carers and staff
- Support student midwives and other healthcare professional as a mentors and sign off mentors and assessors to ensure that the hospital/community midwifery experience meets the required practical and educational standards.
- Facilitate parenting education to women during the antenatal /postnatal period.
