Safeguarding practice can be a difficult nursing discipline to enter without existing experience and expertise, so we are really pleased that an exciting opportunity has arisen for a trained nurse to join the Safeguarding Children's Team at Darent Valley Hospital in a development capacity.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with an interest in safeguarding to join a well-established team within a new Safeguarding Hub. This role provides a rare chance for the right person to begin to develop knowledge and skills in this highly specialised area of nursing practice, while being supported in a safe and nurturing multidisciplinary environment.
You will need to have a sound working knowledge of child development, an inquiring mind and the beginning of critical thinking to start on your new safeguarding career. Excellent communication skills will also be an essential quality to have.
Main duties of the job
Main duties
With support, identify vulnerable children, young people and families early and provide effective plans of support and care that protects and promotes their health and wellbeing
With support, recognise situations that may be detrimental to health and wellbeing of individuals and family members
Begin to develop the knowledge and skills required to make accurate assessment of risk and harm
Learn what constitutes an effective social care referral so that the appropriate level of support can be offered to children and families in need
Support the Safeguarding Liaison Sister in the assessment of children presenting to our Paediatric Emergency Department and Paediatric Assessment Unit
About us

We celebrate the diversity of thought, viewpoints and ideas that help us overcome challenges and embrace new possibilities. We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant Pledge and have a commitment to the Armed Forces Community.
If you are considering applying for a role, please be aware that as an NHS Employee you may have contact with vulnerable service users. We strongly encourage that all our staff are vaccinated against COVID-19 and are vaccinated annually against Flu, in order to protect the health and safety of our staff and patients.
