We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 5 or Band 6 looking for a new challenge in our adult acute team. If you enjoy a fast paced environment and a varied caseload including care of elderly, acute medical, gastro, respiratory and oncology this could be the post for you. You will be an autonomous practitioner, able to manage your own caseload independently and you will have experience of assessing and managing a range of dysphagia and communication impairments. Speech and Language Therapy is part of the integrated Therapies Service and staff benefit from excellent learning opportunities through collaborative working. You will have regular clinical supervision with your senior and access to continuing professional development.
Main duties of the job
You will ideally have experience of the inpatient setting and have completed your dysphagia competencies. The ability to hold a dysphagia and communication caseload including assessment, management, onward referrals and discharges to appropriate settings is important. In addition you will be required to manage a small caseload of complex dysphagia outpatients referred by NMUH Respiratory and Gastro Consultants (up to but no more than 0.2 WTE).We are looking for a team player who is motivated to take on new challenges and be a key player in facilitating patient flow across the acute medical wards. This role offers the opportunity to broaden your clinical skills and experience MDT working across a variety of acute medical conditions, whilst developing leadership skills by supervising junior staff and students on placement. You will need to demonstrate flexibility alongside good prioritisation skills. There will be opportunities to access both videofluoroscopy and FEEs clinics for your patients as well as developing clinical skills in these areas as appropriate. Promoting the role of Speech and Language Therapy within the Trust and more widely is also an essential part of the role.
About us
North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system - consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS's, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.
We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George's University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
