We are seeking an Ambitious, dynamic, motivated and innovative nurse to join our friendly, forward thinking specialist nursing team providing a high quality, holistic, needs led service focusing on the behavioural and developmental needs of children and young people with learning disabilities, Autistic spectrum conditions and other neuro disabilities including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and. Our aim is to form a partnership with families and professionals to enable others to maximize the childs full potential and as a specialist service provide support and advice to the significant people in the childs life

Main duties of the job

The role will involve delivering a highly specialized service for children with a diagnosis of Autism spectrum condition/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder working within NICE guidelines - through assessment, planning and implementation of packages of care. This will involve developing and maintaining a high clinical profile and presence and acting as a role model for other CSU staff. The post holder will offer liaison, advice and support and clinical input to clients with a diagnosis of ASD and their parents/carers and colleagues, both internally and externally to the trust as required. The post holder will undertake prescribing, within agreed clinical management plans and with clear protocols and guidance, supported by the community paediatricians.

Job responsibilities

To provide advice, support and information to the family at the early stages of diagnosis and to act as a key worker/ lead professional, when necessary, also signposting to other sources of support

To run nurseled clinics, demonstrating the ability to work as an autonomous practitioner including the on-going assessment of the effectiveness of treatment packages, ensuring compliance with professional practice and NICE guidance

To provide advice to parents on behavioural management, including challenging behaviours at home and sleep problems in children and young people

To take clinical responsibility for a varied paediatric caseload of differing complexities and to organise this effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time

To be a prescriber of medications having undertaken appropriate training and to work with the Consultant prescriber to an agreed Clinical Management Plan, contributing to the service offered by the whole team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC registration
  • ENB 998 or other teaching and assessing qualification
  • Degree or equivalent level of education/ experience in relevant area.


Desirable

  • Specialist Practitioner Qualification in Health Visiting or School Nursing
  • Registered Childrens Nurse
  • Evidence of additional training / continuing professional development in Childrens disabilities
  • Training in behavioural management and / or parent training
  • Post registration training in supplementary prescribing
  • ADOS trained

  • Highly Competent in working therapeutically with children and young people experiencing complex difficulties and their families throughout the process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.

Desirable

  • Experience in designing training
  • Experience of involving users of the service in a meaningful way in shaping service initiatives and delivery.

  • Previous experience in CAMHS or relevant experience of work with adolescents
