Main duties of the job
There has never been a better time to join the Emergency Department Team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. We have vacancies for B6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join the department on a permanent basis.
The ED is a major trauma centre providing care to patients requiring a variety of services including major trauma, majors' assessment and treatment area and minor injuries. The department also has an enhanced care suite dedicated to those patients experiencing a mental health crisis. The ED prides itself on delivering high quality patient centred care in a fast-paced environment.
The ED is an exciting place to work, great teamwork and multi-disciplinary working ensures that all new starters are made to feel supported and welcome. As you progress through your induction a vast array of learning opportunities are available such as triage competency, suturing, dementia champion, ALS, cannulation and venesection and trauma ILS.

Job responsibilities
As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will be working alongside a dedicated and supportive team, to demonstrate clinical expertise and act as role model within the Emergency Department.
You will be providing support and play a key part in supervising the nursing team on a day-to-day basis.
You will contribute to the effective appraisal, development and recruitment of nurses.
You will assist the senior sisters/charge nurses to ensure the highest delivery of care to patients.
The Emergency Department operates 24/7, so some flexibility will be required to meet service needs.

- Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
- Significant post registration experience, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
- Ward management/management of areas in ED experience
- Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
- Experience in an acute hospital setting
- Provide evidence of supporting /managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
- Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Able to clinically prioritise patients using the Manchester Triage System
- Have completed Immediate Life Support and Paediatric Life support courses as a minimum
