Provide professional support and specialist knowledge in relation to antenatal and new-born screening.
To support the development and implementation of systems to evaluate and facilitate service changes as well as disseminate information to women, partners and health professionals about the screening agenda.
The antenatal and new-born screening department support the specialist fetal medicine clinics.
Main duties of the job
Practice
Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence.
Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Code
Maintain awareness of national developments within antenatal and new-born screening
and disseminate such information.
To support the Directorate to ensure that all staff are informed as to the purpose,
principles and methods of undertaking and engaging in antenatal and new-born
screening, and the relevant immunisation programmes.
Act as an advocate for those women in the care pathway.
Care for those women in line with current evidence, vaccination policies and guidelines and NMC Code.
Complete and maintain electronic and written records.

Clinical Responsibilities
Provide expert clinical and professional advice to staff within the practice area.
Demonstrate an understanding of child protection issues. Initiate/action safeguarding concerns in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care based on evidence-based practice in all aspects of antenatal and newborn screening.
Counsel women and their partners concerning antenatal screen tests as well as high risk results. This would include liaising with other health professionals, internal and external to the Trust.
Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team and promote joint working with the Consultant Obstetricians / Neonatologists
Work in collaboration with the women and other health professionals to inform and disseminate information about fetal abnormality, diagnosis, resulting from a high-risk result.
Support women with their decision making and referring to other health professionals for appropriate care.
Respond to patient and staff enquiries and requests for specific screening information.
