We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive senior physiotherapist to join our dynamic inpatient therapy team within the care of the elderly speciality.

The successful candidate will be expected to work across both Gloucester Royal and Cheltenham General Hospital to deliver high-quality, personalised therapy to patients referred to the therapy service. The appointee will join our integrated therapy team, working alongside experienced Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.

We are looking for an individual who is motivated, flexible and able to demonstrate sound leadership skills. The post holder will have the opportunity to lead on assessing, treating and discharging patients often with complex pathologies with a focus on providing the best quality of life for our frail population. The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills, and be able work as part of a team applying evidence - based intervention and sound clinical reasoning skills.

We have a dedicated Research and Development team providing CPD support to staff in all roles including to Masters levels and beyond. We have a well-established preceptorship program for new graduates as well as dedicated Peer Support groups in all disciplines.

You will be expected to work across site at both Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospital and will also be required to contribute to the therapy weekend working on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

- The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area, in the absence of the team leader.

- The post holder is supervised by a named therapist, who may not be present at all times. Clinical and professional supervision is in the form of regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training.

- The post holder will link with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget. The level of managerial responsibility involves the supervision and appraisal of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates, with the support of the Band 7.

- When performing on call duties, staff must be available on the ward within 45 minutes of the call. For staff living more than 45 minutes from the hospital, a designated on-call room for overnight stay is available in GRH and is free of charge. This room can be used by staff at both sites

  • Deliver a high level of skill in assessment and management of complex patients.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with patients/carers, other team members and the MDT.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply and utilise evidence based practice, including National guidelines to deliver, evaluate and audit the service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to network with other professionals and set up close working relations
  • Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others.


Desirable

  • Have an understanding of the principles of physiotherapy as well as occupational therapy in order to contribute to the development of an integrated therapy service.
  • Hold a valid, UK Driving License
