The pre-operative assessment team, are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our team. The team consists of Nurses, anaesthetist, health care support workers and administrators.

We provide a nurse led clinic supported by our anaesthetic consultants for patients undergoing surgery for a range of procedures, and specialties. We also work collaboratively with the inpatient and day surgery teams.

Our aim is to provide safe effective pre-operative care and we are responsible for ensuring a safe patient assessment in line with National guidelines and deliver a high standard of care with a patient centred approach.

We are looking for someone with pre-operative assessment experience with a positive and progressive attitude, ability to problem solve, competent in advanced assessment skill and works well in a multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

- To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients.

- To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or plans.

- To participate fully in the day to day organisation.

To assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC code of conduct. There is an expectation for post holders:

- To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff

- To participate in Trust initiatives around infection control and care quality indicators

- To assist with any local or trust initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of the quality of services and safeguarding of high standards of care

- To be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that these are observed

- To help foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale

Qualifications

Essential

  • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse (Adult) or equivalent with relevant post registration experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to lifelong learning
  • Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent and a Recognised Teaching Qualification or working toward


Desirable

  • Completed Bronze QI and desire to work towards Silver


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in an acute surgical environment
  • Previous experience working as registered nurse in a pre-operative assessment unit
