The post holder will have responsibility to provide expertise to young people and families seeking support from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) within Swansea Bay University Health Board. This is a community-based service which provides support in various locations, as is appropriate for the young person (e.g. clinic, school, home). The role involves partnership working and close collaboration with statutory and third sector partners as well as families/ carers/ trusted adults.

This post will play a key role within the CAMHS multi-professional team, and will be involved in the following CAMHS functions, including referral triage, continuous assessment, intervention, case holding and discharge. The post holder will provide high-quality, evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-informed approaches to groups, individuals and families.

Main duties of the job

Core clinical duties of the job include:

• Being responsible for providing timely, patient-led care in line with the needs of young people and their families/carers, ensuring culturally sensitive practice.
  
• Provide expertise within the CAMHS multi-professional team,consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, psychological therapies, and other disciplines.
• Work on own initiative when providing consultation, liaison and support, directing the young person to the correct support pathway using independent clinical decision making.
  
• Participate in assessments under Part 1 of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010) with suitably qualified colleagues.
  
• Provide evidence-based, biopsychosocial interventions utilising CBT-informed approaches in both an individual and group-based modalities.
  
• Ability to plan care and act as case holder for individual patients.
  
• Assess and manage patient safety and risk and maintain appropriate record keeping in line with Health Board and professional standards including documentation (e.g. Wales Applied Risk Research Network (WARRN)).
  
• Develop the skills to provide physical health monitoring.
  
• Possess organisation skills to manage a clinical caseload with competing demands and frequent interruption.

• Qualified to deliver CBT-informed interventions on an individual and group basis (e.g. counselling, SFT, CBT) - OR - Registered paediatric or adult nurse, Qualified and registered Occupational Therapist, Qualified and registered social worker
• Post-graduate training or equivalent experience in, Health, Youth Work, Education, Social Work or direct relevant professional experience of autonomous practice in the field.
• Knowledge of the assessment and treatment of mental health.
• Knowledge of and/or training in CBT informed approaches (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT, SFT, CFT).
• Knowledge of and/or training in risk and safety management process, including self-harm, suicide and risk to others, of child safeguarding legislation and procedures and of Gillik Competence and mental capacity.
