Job Title: Rotational Occupational Therapist

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week (weekend and flexible working may be required dependent on clinical rotation)

Perm/Fixed Term: Permanent

Salary: £29,970 - £32,324 per annum

Closing Date: 30th November (subject to change if application numbers are high)

Interview Date: 10th December (subject to change)

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Therapy Team at George Eliot Hospital as part of the Occupational Therapy Rotation which includes the following clinical areas:
  • Medicine, General, Gastro and Cardiac
  • Stroke Rehab
  • Trauma & Orthopaedics
  • Neuro Outpatients
  • Hands
  • REACT (Front Door emergency care)

Main duties of the job

As part of the Occupational Therapy rotation and in keeping with HCPC and RCOT guidelines you will act as an autonomous practitioner in the clinical area of speciality.

You will be supported by a clinical mentor to:
  • Deliver high standard evidence based care whilst working autonomously and as part of an MDT
  • Perform Therapy assessments of patients, providing a diagnosis to develop and deliver an individualised treatment program
  • Hold responsibility for your own caseload, working under supervision
  • You will be responsible for keeping your knowledge updated and be prepared to undertake further professional training and will receive support to do so.
  • A flexible approach to day to day tasks is essential, in order to meet the demands of the service especially as some of our services work over 7 days per week. Applicants will be expected to travel when necessary to participate in providing community services as well as undertaking Home Assessments of patients.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will interpret referrals, manage their own caseload, and create individualized treatment plans tailored to each patients needs. You will be responsible for conducting regular assessments and delivering appropriate interventions using a range of therapeutic techniques, ensuring all methods align with the Services goals and are properly documented in patient records.

Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate documentation, participating in multidisciplinary care planning, and collaborating closely with other healthcare professionals. In addition, you will contribute to peer and individual performance reviews, engage in self-development, and support the professional growth of Therapy Assistants and students. You will also uphold the highest standards of patient care and confidentiality in line with Trust and departmental policies, including the British Association of Occupational Therapists Code of Conduct.

The role demands effective communication skills to interact sensitively with clients, their families, and other professionals, especially when dealing with high-stress situations or distressing circumstances. The ideal candidate will be resilient, able to manage physically demanding tasks, and skilled in helping patients adjust to life-impacting conditions.

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy (or in final year)
  • Registration with HCPC (Eligible to apply)
  • GCSE level 'C'/Functional Skills level 2 English and Maths
