We are seeking a motivated, committed and enthusiastic registered general nurse to provide evidence-based interventions to drug and alcohol service users within the Derby City community.

We provide high quality planned care to individuals experiencing substance misuse problems in order to improve their health and wellbeing and to support their recovery; the role of the Specialist Complex Needs Substance Misuse Nurse will be integral to achieving this.

Experience of supporting service users with substance misuse difficulties and associated complexities is essential and it is desirable to have independent prescribing competency and motivational interviewing accreditation.

Excellent communication, team working and liaison skills are also prerequisites.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will carry a case load, supporting service users with substance misuse issues and complexity predominantly associated with physical health needs. The post holder will also link with hostel providers where indicated to support place based physical health interventions.

Provide treatment interventions within Derby Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service to service users with substance misuse issues, complex physical and mental health needs

Work with service users with substance misuse problems (drugs and alcohol) to co-ordinate their care in relation to prescribing and harm reduction within the framework of the harm reduction, prescribing policies and recovery philosophy of the service

Deliver harm reduction support (including BBV testing, and Hep B vaccination) where required to support the Harm Reduction team

Provide strong Clinical Leadership in support of the Service Manager

Promote and support service user and carer involvement as autonomy and choice are an integral part of the philosophy of the Trust

Respond to the needs of individuals in an honest, non-judgemental and open manner, which respects the rights of all

Work closely with colleagues to improve and shape responsive services, ensuring that clinical services are delivered to the highest standard and are in accordance with the most recent evidence-based guidance

As a registered nurse, be personally accountable for their professional practice that will be delivered in accordance with the legal and professional responsibilities outlined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council

Ensure that services are provided in a safe and supportive manner, and at all times adopt a professional approach to their work promoting a positive image to services users/carers and the general public

Always act in a way, which reflects the Trusts Values

Manage and provide care to a caseload of service users

Adopt a proactive engagement approach when working with service users and where appropriate carry out home appointments, liaise with other service areas and facilitate multi-disciplinary care provision

As part of a proactive engagement approach the post holder will engage in outreach work supporting homeless hostels and other such settings to support service user access to treatment
