Are you ready to work in a new mental health trust with is leading the way in Young people's mental health care in Birmingham? Are you a mental health Nurse with CAMHS experience and want to make a real difference to the outcomes for the young people of Birmingham ?
An opportunity has become available to work within the CAMHS urgent care pathway, for Forward thinking Birmingham.
The team working with Young adults under 18 who are within our urgent care pathway. The team consists of Consultants, Lead nurses, senior mental health practitioners and support workers.
The team works across the city to offer the young adults of Birmingham specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention. We have an exciting opportunity to be opening the first ever psychiatry decisions unit (PDU) with a place of safety in a band new building.
This is an exciting post for a mental health nurse.

Main duties of the job
Completing assessments of young peoples mental health and developing an individual plan of care
Developing and implementing robust risk management plans
Ensuring the physical wellbeing of the young person when in the case of the HBPOS
Representing the service at professionals meetings and relevant stakeholder events
Liaison with families and carers
Completing and holding oversight of mental health act processes and documentation
Supporting crisis and home treatment teams as needed

You will be responsible for coordinating the Health Based Place of Safety and the Psychiatric decisions unit. You will be responsible for managing and triaging referrals, completing mental health assessments and signposting as appropriate. There is the expectation that you will provide cross cover where needed to the rest of the urgent care pathway, ie: home treatment and/or crisis.

Essential
- Registered Nurse RMN
- Relevant Post qualifying qualification e.g. or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of training
- Relevant Post graduate study or be able to demonstrate further skills based training
Desirable
- Qualification in a psychological modality - ie: CBT / DBT
- Nurse Prescriber
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Extensive post registration experience in mental health care
- Use of therapeutic interventions with children and young people i.e. 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work
- Delivering teaching / training
- Providing consultation
- Liaison with inpatient settings
- Working knowledge of Health Service
- Working knowledge of mental health including Section 136 process
- Good knowledge of recognised disorders and illnesses in the field of mental health
- Understanding of a range of communication styles when working with children, young people, young adults and families in distress
Desirable
- Working in inpatient settings
- Providing care in community settings
- Developing a specialist area on behalf of the Service/ or local Team
