Avon and Wiltshire Partnership (AWP) are looking for an exceptional person to deliver our vision to deliver excellence for people with a learning disability and autistic people in our specialist acute inpatient mental health services and outreach team. The South West region is transforming the end to end pathway, together we will work collaboratively to support people to live their best lives in their local communities
Our ambition is to deliver a specialist, acute mental health care setting to meet the environmental (including sensory) and clinical needs of people with a learning disability and or autism that cannot access mainstream inpatient services.
The new service is being coproduced and you will be influential in designing and implementing our service and team in partnership with people with lived experience.
The AWP inpatient unit aims to be a centre of excellence and has been carefully designed and developed with clinicians and people with lived experience. We are expecting the new centre to be open in 2025. . You will be instrumental in the development, implementation and delivery of the clinical and operational model for the inpatient service.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit a Band 6 nurse. The main duties of the role include the operational responsibility for the day-to-day clinical management of the Unit alongside nurse in charge and named nurse responsibilities. Administration of medication, performing and recording physical observations and acting upon clinical concerns are key skills that should be completed and role modelled for junior staff alongside overall clinical leadership and support of junior colleagues.
The successful candidate will also be expected to actively contribute to multi-disciplinary discharge planning, participate in audits to improve quality of care, complete comprehensive person-centred nursing assessment including risk, behaviour and mental state assessment and use evidence based nursing guidance to inform care planning and interventions for patients. On occasion this role will include manual handling and physical behavioural management. A strong clinical background in learning disability, autism, and mental health will be supported by ongoing CPD opportunities in addition to providing clinical and managerial supervision of junior colleagues.
