Applications are invited for a position as a Consultant Mammographer with a specialist interest in Breast Radiology to support the Symptomatic Breast Service within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This is a substantive role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide an expert level of care to patients, presenting with or who are at risk of breast disease including the assessment and diagnosis of patients clinical leadership and strategic direction. They will exercise the highest degree of professional autonomy in the decision-making process, that will improve overall patient outcomes. They will support the Imaging Directorate in developing Breast Services, in line with best practice and national imperatives.

The post holder must adhere to the Health Care Professions Council and the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct, local trust policies, protocols and guidelines and be actively involved in clinical supervision and peer review.

The post holder will be a core member of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team and participate in the presentation of cases.

Propose and implement changes to the Service by challenging and developing strategies to move outside boundaries of how care is delivered. Demonstrate the ability to reconcile conflicting interest which may arise within the service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Diploma of the College of Radiographers (Radiodiagnosis) or BSc (Hons) in Radiography or equivalent relevant experience
  • *Certificate of Competence or Post Diploma Mammography core training qualification
  • *Clinical registration with the HCPC as a Radiographer.
  • *Member of the Society and College of Radiographers (ScoR).
  • *Teaching qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • *Specialist knowledge acquired through post-graduate study in Mammography including Breast ultrasound, stereo tactic needle core biopsy and film interpretation to Master's degree level in Advanced Mammography or equivalent experience. In-depth knowledge of Breast Imaging.


Desirable

  • *Willingness to study for a PhD in Advanced Breast Practice.


Experience

Essential

  • *Specialist professional expertise underpinned with appropriate academic qualifications combined with extensive practical experience.
  • *Broad scope of experience in breast imaging.
  • *Ability to demonstrate a highly expert level of professional expert clinical knowledge and skills.
  • *Experience of developing extended/expanded policies and protocols.
  • *Portfolio which provides clinical evidence of experience in the provision of breast imaging services.
  • *Experience in clinical research, audit and monitoring.
  • *Evidence of leading contributions to care across departmental and disciplinary boundaries.
  • *Demonstrated ability of quality and safety initiatives and experience of monitoring and reporting standards.
  • *Development and provision of educational and training packages.
  • *Significant experience of screening, assessment and/or symptomatic clinics
  • *Experience in supervising students
  • *Experience of conducting clinical Audit
  • *Experience of manipulating, analysing, validating clinical information
  • *Experience of the PERFORMS test set
  • *Experience with breast tomosynthesis
  • *An in depth understanding of the NHS Breast Screening Programme ensuring the service achieves standards/targets as required.
  • *To have portfolio evidence of current CPD
  • *In-depth knowledge of using PACS systems for film reporting and image archiving
  • *Sound knowledge of national data requirements

  • *Evidence of peer reviewed articles
