Produce radiographic images of the highest diagnostic quality with the minimum radiation dose to patients and staff.

To maintain excellent standards of patient care.

Liaise with other colleague and department in a professional manner to ensure the delivery of and efficient service

Main duties of the job

Undertake all types of imaging according to standard operating procedures, including both local policies and according to manufacturer's guidelines.

Ensure all examinations are carried out according to professional code of conduct for Radiographers, and adhering to safety procedures e.g. IR(ME)R

Always introduce yourself to the patient, My name is......

Obtain the correct consent from patients prior to undertaking procedures.

Considers patients' safety and wishes at all times, alerting others if there is deterioration in the patients' condition or a withdrawal of consent.

Adapt techniques to suit patients' needs if possible, taking into consideration risk factors and managing that risk.

Prioritise in-patient requests according to clinical need as required.

Ensure clinical rooms are checked for use at the start of the day and maintain the room throughout the day, including cleaning, stocking up, safety etc

Job responsibilities

  • To maintain good standards of patient care whilst producing images of high quality, adhering to departmental imaging procedures and protocols, (complying with IRMER)
  • To ensure rooms and equipment are kept clean and well stocked. Emergency equipment should be available and ready to use.
  • To take part in the department quality assurance programme ensuring that the necessary QA checks are carried out in- line with departmental procedures.
  • Ensure that all equipment faults, changes in output and/or working practices that would affect the radiation received by the patient are reported immediately as per procedure.
  • To take responsibility for raising quality issues and related risks with the relevant people, and to take action where appropriate.
  • To read and adhere to all trust and departmental policies and procedures.
  • To maintain a high standard of appearance as expected of professional staff, according to the Trust uniform policy.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of CPD
  • Ability to prioritise work
  • Recent NHS or care experience


Desirable

  • Out of hours experience
  • Radiographic experience post qualification

  • Good communication skills
  • Good clinical skills
  • Work as part of a team.


Desirable

  • Good level of IT skills
  • Familiar with SECTRA and PACS
  • Ability to critique images


Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Radiography or DCR equivalent (students qualifying this academic year welcome to apply)
  • HCPC registration


Desirable

  • Training in Radiation Protection
  • Training in Health & Safety
  • Out of hours working experience
