We have an exciting opportunity for a B7 Occupational Therapy lead based within the Older People's Service in Tameside. This is a new role to the service & the successful candidate will be responsible for the recruitment of a new therapy team which will provide support to the Older People's inpatient wards & the wider community teams in conjunction with the Service Manager.
To take the lead in the development and management of the Occupational Therapy service within the Mental Health Service for Older People (MHSOP) using highly specialist clinical and managerial skills developed through experience and post graduate training, ensuringquality of service and compliance with the Trust's core values, standards and regulations.The post holder will work in partnership with Operational, and Team and Ward managers to support and develop the Occupational Therapy workforce, ensuring person centred, high quality, safe and effective OT service delivery across MHSOP in the borough.
Main duties of the job
o To be part of the MHSOP management team, and be responsible for raising the Occupational Therapy profile, sustaining a strong Occupational Therapy identity within theServiceo To support the recruitment and retention of Occupational Therapy staff within MHSOPo To utilise skills for audit, policy, research and propose/ implement policy changes influencing service development.o To provide expert knowledge and support within the OT service to the wider team, taking the lead on defined projects.o To contribute to the overall management of the service and development of models of care.o Ensure clinical and managerial supervision is provided to Occupational Therapists in order to deliver a high standard of assessments and interventions.o To provide leadership and support others, including supervision and continuing professional development to other Occupational Therapists.o To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised assessments and interventionsusing evidenced based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.o To demonstrate high levels of initiative and take a proactive and organised approach to engage staff within service development activities.

To deliver a highly specialist clinical service using a wide range of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention methods for older patients with complex mental health conditions utilising a range of assessment tools. To plan and implement client centred treatment programmes and interventions using specialist clinical skills to achieve therapeutic targets. To monitor, evaluate and modify therapeutic treatment across the Trust foot print MHSOP in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness. The ensure Occupational Therapy specialist reports are of a high standard detailing assessment, treatment outcomes and recommendations. To take the lead in the planning, development and evaluation of a consistent Occupational Therapy service within MHSOP, conducting clinical audits and research,demonstrating the effectiveness and value of the service Trust wide. Demonstrate awareness of national and local legislation, service and organisational standards, and leading on internal and external clinical governance processes within area of responsibility pertaining to Occupational Therapy. To implement and apply up-to-date specialist knowledge and techniques in accordance with evidence based practice. To communicate highly complex and sensitive information effectively with multiple agencies, professionals and other staff in other agencies to ensure the delivery of high quality, coordinated and client-centred care. To be a role model of professional behaviour and practice.
To provide leadership to Occupational Therapy staff within MHSOP in a visible manner ensuring that Occupational Therapists are supported. To assist in maintaining an effective supervision framework, taking responsibility for managerial support for staff as delegated. To apply specialist skills and knowledge in order to establish professional competence and fitness to practice, ensuring requirements from regulatory bodies are met. To demonstrate on going personal development through participation in internal and external development opportunities, ensuring outcomes are recorded and reflected upon in a continuing professional development portfolio.
