Our Specialist Perinatal Mental Health team provides holistic and multidisciplinary approach to care. Our team consists of multiple disciplines who work collaboratively to support recovery and improving bonds with baby in the crucial first 1001 days.

We deliver a high quality service that is safe, person-centred, and focused on family and recovery. Regular 121, group support and supervision are provided, along with CPD and regular training opportunities to enable your support and growth in the role.

We are looking for a dynamic and solution-focused team player who is passionate about high quality care. You will be outcome driven and able to work collaboratively with our organisational partners in IAPT, Infant Mental Health, Special Parenting Service, Maternity Services, Health Visiting, the MBU in Devon, and other agencies to deliver a unified and safe service to expectant and new mothers, their babies and partners.

As a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner you will work as part of our established team, playing a pivotal role in the delivery of specialist interventions . Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a core qualification (eg RMN, OT or SW), will have a background of working within mental health services. They will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to the effective provision of Perinatal Mental and Infant Mental Health Services to an identified caseload of women.

The post holder will work as a senior member of the team and liaise with a wide range of both statutory and non-statutory agencies to provide creative packages of care that meet national standards set out by NHSE and the Royal College of Psychiatrists Perinatal Quality Network. The post holder will be involved in the triaging of referrals to the service, carry out perinatal assessments and will deliver specialist therapeutic interventions aimed at addressing identified perinatal and infant mental health needs in the family.

The post holder will have the opportunity to train in further perinatal specific training to support them in their role.

The core purpose of the team in which the post-holder will work, is to deliver high quality, tailored interventions in maternal mental health and attachment based approaches to mothers and infants in Cornwall. The service will have a key role in raising the profile and standards of mental health care for expectant and newly delivered mothers across universal and specialist services.

Person Specification Education/ Qualifications Essential
  • Core qualification eg RMN, OT or SW (with mental health experience)
  • Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism
  • Training to level 3 in Safeguarding children and young people: roles and competencies for Health Care staff or willingness to undertake training.
Desirable
  • Qualification in delivering therapeutic interventions eg CBT.
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment
  • Substantial experience of managing a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems
Desirable
  • Providing therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing and developing attachment between mother and baby or willingness to train in such.
Skills & Aptitude Essential
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems.
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills
Knowledge & Abilities Essential
  • Specialist knowledge in perinatal mental health or willingness to undertake training.
  • Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health
  • Ability to manage risk
