An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and suitably skilled Occupational Therapist to join our surgery team based at the University hospital of Wales. You will gain experience primarily of acute surgery with the opportunity to gain skills in trauma and vascular services. You will also be part of the larger surgery team which includes services in University hospital of Llandough. Also working collaboratively with the wider team within UHW working alongside colleagues in medicine and specialities.

This is an exciting period as we are currently operationalising our Occupational Therapy strategy across surgery providing opportunity to engage in service development and ensuring we provide the best value to our service users.

We wish to appointan ambitious and motivated individual with excellent communication skills,effective team working and a passion for development and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

You will work with patients with a range of complex needs following surgical interventions, developingknowledge and skills within this specialist service.

You will have opportunity to consolidate clinical skills, build experience and invest in quality improvement developments.

You will be supported with induction/training and supervision. Development will be supported underpinned by the RCOT Pillars of Practice and Cardiff and Vale Occupational Therapy Strategy. You will deliver occupationally focused practice, delivering outcomes that matter to people using evidence based practice and research.

Opportunities for development of supervisory skills will be available and engagement in service development/improvement projects and role promotion encouraged.

A seven-day service is delivered in some services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • H.C.P.C. Registration
  • Specialist training/courses to Postgraduate Diploma level
  • Educators Practice Placement training


Desirable

  • Membership of the Royal college of Occupational Therapy (RCOT)


EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Previous clinical experience relevant to post
  • Broad experience across Occupational Therapy
  • Experience as working as part of an MDT
  • NHS experience


Skills

Essential

  • Highly developed physical skills relevant to the clinical area e.g. manual techniques and therapeutic handling
  • Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload
  • Personal responsibility for learning and development
  • Proactive and show initiative
  • Excellent communication skills with healthcare professional and the public


Special Knowledge

  • Evidence of relevant C.P.D
  • Awareness of Health and Safety/ clinical risk management
