We are looking for an experienced senior leader to join the Acute Assessment Unit. The post holder will be responsible for leading the nursing steam on a day to day basis, co-ordinating the delivery of holistic patient care within the clinical environment , whilst supporting flow in terms of admissions, transfers and discharges.

Through clinical leadership, adherence of the Trust right care behaviours and the utilisation of effective management skills, the Senior Sister will ensure the Unit team is informed, trained and developed to enable the highest standards of evidence based and compassionate care to be delivered to our patients, their carers and families. They will support a collaborative, open and trusting communication style to all groups that the unit communicates or interacts with from staff to the individuals we care for.

To actively participate in the development of the Acute Assessment Unit using innovation, challenge and evidence based practice/strategies to support forward growth, progression and value based care.

The post holder must understand the core concepts of safe and effective patient flow through the unit.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the NHS constitution and Understanding the New NHS
  • Understanding of patient flow through a healthcare and the concepts of SAFER


Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate positive, verbal, written and electronic communication kills with MDT, clients, relatives
  • Demonstrate an understanding of leadership skills and the provision of an environment which encourages empowerment


Desirable

  • Teaching presentation skills
  • IT skills


Qualification

Essential

  • Registered nurse with current registration
  • Participate in management development courses
  • Recent experience in the care of acutely ill and their management plan
  • Evidence of competency on teaching and assessing


Desirable

  • Recognised teaching/mentoring qualification
  • Management qualification
  • ILS
  • 1st level degree or evidence working towards a degree


Experience

Essential

  • Experience at Band 6 in acute medicine or Urgent Care environment for a minimum of 2 years or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how an Acute Assessment Unit runs - staffing models, patient pathways
  • Evidence of continued professional development relevant to speciality
  • Evidence of learning and development in line with NMC revalidation requirements
  • Evidence of ward/departmental management demonstrating leadership and change management skills


Desirable

  • Audit
  • Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance
  • Experience in complaints management
  • Recruitment and retention
