The Community-based Midwifery Band 7 role focuses on improving services and outcomes for pregnant young parents and their babies. The post holder will manage a dedicated caseload, engage with community organisations, and provide support to young parents while ensuring high standards of care. Key responsibilities include data reporting, advising healthcare professionals, safeguarding, and offering family planning guidance. This role emphasises effective communication and collaboration within acute and primary health care settings, positioning the midwife as a clinical expert and resource for the community.

Main duties of the job

  • Caseload Management: Responsible for overseeing a caseload of pregnant young parents, ensuring comprehensive and continuous midwifery care throughout their pregnancy.
  • Community Engagement: Attend young parent pregnancy forums and establish connections with health, statutory, and voluntary organisations to support young parents effectively.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Provide statistics on the care provided to pregnant young parents and evaluate outcomes to inform service improvements.
  • Advisory Role: Offer guidance and information to other midwives and health professionals, promoting engagement with services and ensuring high standards of care for young parents.
  • Communication Skills: Utilise excellent communication skills to facilitate participation in young parents' pregnancy groups, addressing sensitive and potentially contentious issues with empathy and professionalism.
  • Safeguarding Expertise: Maintain a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures, collaborating with Social Services and contributing to case conferences and strategy meetings as necessary.
  • Family Planning Knowledge: Provide informed advice on family planning to assist young parents in avoiding subsequent pregnancies.
  • Comprehensive Care Delivery: Deliver midwifery care across acute and primary health care settings, prioritising tasks to ensure efficient and effective service delivery

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please emailmtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.netif this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check atEnhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Mentorship course.
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child
  • Registered Midwife on the NMC register.


Skills

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
  • Awareness of government led and professional issues relating to midwifery / women and birthing people centred care
  • Ability to identify women and birthing people and staff issues and proactive in addressing of these.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication including blood products
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team working skills.
  • Computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Word and other health databases.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of managing an area including management of rotas, resources, budgets and staff. Experience in staff / practice development including undertaking appraisals and Personal development plans.
  • Experience of audit / research-based midwifery practice.
  • Experience of resource management.
  • Experience of Clinical Supervision
