We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Mental Health Practitioner to join our Outstanding CQC-rated forensic mental health services at Chase Farm Hospital. This role is ideal for a dynamic and adaptable individual who thrives in a collaborative Multidisciplinary Team environment, dedicated to upholding high-quality standards for adults (18+) with complex mental health needs. Main duties of the job

  • To participate as an effective member of the MDT and be responsible for the development and implementation of a patient centred approach to care: assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating the care needs of patients and their carers.
  • To interpret the significance of clinical observations, act upon them and communicate information to other multi-disciplinary team members after making the necessary clinical judgement and in line with clinical protocols.
  • To determine nursing priorities and plan patient care accordingly including full risk assessment, inform the Ward manager when changes in circumstances may affect standards of care.
  • To meet the mental, physical, psychological, social and cultural needs of the patients, using research based knowledge and skills to support patients to maintain their individual identities.
  • To recognise the needs of the family/carers, ensuring their involvement in care where appropriate whilst offering support and education with empathy.
  • To ensure that measurable high standards of nursing care are maintained and participate in the setting and review of standards and nursing audits and in supporting staff in delivering and achieving high standards of nursing care

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • Professional Registration with NMC
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing


Desirable

  • Post registration qualification appropriate to speciality
  • Mentorship or practice assessor certification


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 18 months experience at Band 5
  • Experience of supervising junior staff members
  • Experience working in Male and/ or Female mental health inpatient services


Desirable

  • Involvement in Quality Improvement Projects
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Working in a forensic medium secure setting


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983
  • Detailed understanding of the CPA process


Desirable

  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work within a Forensic setting


Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team


Desirable

  • Effective communication skills


Other Requirements

  • Ability to take part in PMCB/PMVA training
