We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our friendly, dedicated, and supportive team.

The CAMHS Eating Disorders Service is a well-established service and was recently Winners of the Chairs Outstanding Performance Award 2024. The team provides an outpatient service offering evidence-based treatment approaches to children and young people up to the age of 18 and their families / carers. We offer support county-wide support and have clinics based in Peterborough, Huntingdon and Cambridge. We work closely with other agencies and continue to strengthen our links with the local acute paediatric services.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing specialist evidence-based care for children and young people presenting with eating disorders. You will be co-ordinating care which may involve liaising with other agencies such as schools and the local hospitals. You will be supported to undertake training to enable you to deliver family-based interventions. There are also opportunities to deliver CBT-E. Part of the role will also involve supervision, teaching, and training to our other internal CAMHS teams and outside partners. There will also be opportunities for your own professional development.

Job responsibilities

  • To work as an integral member of the Specialist Eating Disorder Team as part of CAMHS, providing comprehensive mental health assessments to clients and their families and providing a range of direct work and evidence-based therapeutic intervention.
  • To have the ability to utilize specialist knowledge to make decisions about a child or young persons mental health needs.
  • To participate in the planning and delivery of evidence-based therapeutic programmes, family-based interventions, multi-family groups and parenting support programmes as the service develops.
  • To work with Young People up until the age of 18 years, ensuring a continuation of mental health services, between local CAMHS provision and adult mental health provision.
  • To provide speedy assessment and intervention in partnership with other local
  • Childrens Services.
  • To work towards early intervention and prevention for young people with significant mental health difficulties and emerging eating disorders.
  • Through an evidence based clinical approach, reduce the mental and physical health risks to young people, and help them to enhance their mental health.
  • Primary emphasis will be given to direct clinical work, but an important part of the role will be to provide consultation and liaison, training and support to other Children and Young Peoples professionals.
  • To participate in the teams use of routine outcome monitoring to inform service design across the pathway and wider CAMHS.
  • To educate and involve children and young people and family/carers, in their care/support plan and provide opportunities or service users to contribute to assessment and the development of service provision.


Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level: nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy.


Desirable

  • Training in an evidence-based therapeutic intervention recommended by NICE Guidelines relevant to CAMHS and eating disorder clients, i.e. Systemic Therapy CBT.


Experience

Essential

  • Post-qualification experience in assessment and treatment with Child and Adolescent families.
  • Experience of Multidisciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Experience working with families
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication.


Desirable

  • Experience of assessing young people with eating disorders within a community setting
  • Experience of group work
  • Experience of teaching groups of professionals.
  • Experience of working within a multicultural framework
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
  • Willingness and ability to participate as independent practitioner in assessments.
  • Ability to teach, train and supervise
  • Evidence of ability to exercise a high level of judgement and decision-making.
  • Ability to travel between sites and to service user homes when clinically necessary.


Desirable

  • Ability to assess and treat children and young people and families with mental health and psychological difficulties.


Knowledge & Understanding

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Sound knowledge of the Trust's and Local Safeguarding policy and procedures
  • Able to contain and work with high levels of distress from clients.
  • Motivated towards personal and professional development.
  • An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
