We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to a Band 7 Practice Education Facilitator post for 12 months for Midwifery.

The post holder will work across the midwifery and the corporate divisions with the support of an experienced team of PEFs to lead on the provision of safe and quality learning environments across Midwifery.

As an experienced Midwife the post holder will work in partnership with our partner Universities, partner further education colleges and with partners across the Greater Manchester region to create high quality learning opportunities for our Midwifery learners.

* At the end of the fixed term contract successful candidates will be supported to apply for a permanent Band 6 post within the division *

This vacancy is open to all internal and external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally secure their manager's agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis/secondment and will end in 12 months or when the substantive postholder returns. Whilst this post is advertised on a fixed term / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality multi-professional learning environments within the Trust and will be required to work locally within services where learning opportunities can be provided. The post holder will be required to support the breadth of the student experience, which may require cross boundary working, and contribute to the to the delivery of the NHSE Quality Assurance Framework.

  • NHS England - North
  • The North West Approved Education Institutions
  • Locality based Service Providers - local Trusts, Primary Care, and the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sector

Key requirements include:
  • Assessing the quality of practice learning environments ensuring all service areas/ placements have up to date action plans in place to contribute to the annual quality monitoring of the NHS Contract.
  • Facilitating the development, and ensuring a sufficient provision of educators / assessor / supervisors across relevant service areas providing supervision and support structures, creating capacity, building capability, and ensuring consistency and efficiency
  • Participating in Quality Assurance Educational Audits across sites
  • Developing and maintaining links with Education Providers to support educators in practice For example, contributing to curriculum development, validation and review of programmes across the partner AEIs and other training providers

Job responsibilities

An experienced healthcare professional who works in partnership with the Approved Education Institutions (AEIs). The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality multi-professional learning environments, the maintenance and increase of educator numbers and placement capacity and the development of inter-professional learning opportunities and support in practice.
  • Lead on the structuring, design and delivery of inter-professional learning in practice for healthcare learners and educators / assessors / supervisors within the organisation
  • Work in partnership with the AEIs and other key stakeholders in the planning, delivery and review of multiprofessional development programmes for educators / assessors / supervisors in order to meet the learning needs of different professional groups
  • Identify opportunities where multiprofessional practice supervision can be facilitated in practice as a foundation for inter-professional learning to take place.
  • Lead on the development, implementation and review of education in the clinical line with Trusts Learning & Learning Environmentpolicy


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of Education in Practice at Masters level equivalent e.g. mentorship module Masters level or other Masters level module related to education or willingness to undertake
  • Professional qualification to a minimum of degree level with up-to-date professional registration as Midwife with NMC
  • Completed Clinical Educator or Practice Assessor training / preparation


Experience

Essential

  • Broad range of post qualifying clinical experience
  • Extensive experience of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students in the practice setting.
  • Experience of having worked across professional and organisational boundaries.
  • Practical experience of facilitating change
  • Experience of staff management/supervision
  • Experience of developing and implementing new systems and procedures
  • Knowledge of preceptorship process

  • Working knowledge of Interprofessional learning theory
  • Microsoft office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Understanding of quality improvement methodology and outcome measurement
