The Radiotherapy Physics section of the Department of Medical Physics at The James Cook University Hospital has two vacancies for Clinical Scientists.

The successful candidate will possess a good knowledge of the radiotherapy process and will contribute to routine clinical service delivery and the development of new techniques and technologies across all areas of the service.

Main duties of the job

Applicants for this post should be HCPC Registered as a Clinical Scientist or in a position to achieve registration within 12 months.

We also welcome applications from individuals able to achieve registration via ACS route 2 within 3 years. Appointment would be under AFC annex 21 rules, following a structured training plan leading to HCPC registration.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of relevant areas of medical physics applied to radiotherapy physics, imaging, treatment planning and treatment delivery and verification.
  • Evidence of knowledge of current scientific and technological developments in radiotherapy
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of the team.


Desirable

  • Evidence of knowledge of clinical oncology


Qualifications

Essential

  • A first or second class honours degree in physics. A postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD).
  • STP training scheme or equivalent postgraduate experience.


Desirable

  • Evidence of attendance at conferences or training courses intended to extend the breadth and depth of knowledge.
  • Registered with the HCPC as a clinical scientist.


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of completed research and development projects.


Desirable

  • Evidence of career progression demonstrating both breadth and depth of experience.
