Band 6 Stroke Specialist Occupational Therapist 37.5 Hours per week Weekends and Bank Holiday working will be required on a rota basis.
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated therapist to join our occupational therapy stroke service in Lincoln.
Our stroke unit operates within a culture of a strong supportive multi-disciplinary team consisting of Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists. Therapists work alongside each other to promote person centred goals to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes and facilitate timely discharge from hospital.
The Occupational Therapy department is committed to providing an environment of excellent professional growth. We promote and enable regular supervision and appraisal in order to support professional development through skill accusation and training opportunities. We hold regular department meetings in order to promote effective communication within and across teams.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialised assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of complex stroke patients. To support Band 7 Team Lead in delivering therapy services and support/lead the team in their absence if required. To develop specialist stroke skills for the Band 5 Occupational Therapists within the team and other team members. To liaise with patients, relatives, members of the multidisciplinary team and other agencies, and support complex situations and decision- making. To successfully and safely facilitate discharge from hospital to discharge destination.
To deliver evidence based specialist Occupational therapy interventions.
To work seamlessly with other MDT members to ensure a high quality client centred provision of therapy in order to maximise independence and support wellbeing.
To contribute to the MDT goal -setting incorporating physical, psychological and emotional needs for rehabilitation.
To co-ordinate treatment interventions working alongside discharge planning needs.
To provide training to patients and families to enable purposeful engagement in activities of daily living and support moving and handling skills.
To provide clinical supervision and leadership to staff as delegated by the team manager.
To provide a compassionate, caring and committed service for patients and families.

- HPC Registration
- Dip.COT or BSc OT
- Willingness to complete postgraduate study relating to the clinical area.
Desirable
- RCOT Member
- ECDL or equivalent
- Practice Education certificate/ APPLE
- Post registration study relevant to Stroke.
Experience

- Relevant post graduate Occupational Therapy experience within an acute NHS or Community setting
- Evidence of participation in Clinical Governance activities
