An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join our new Long Covid Service, operating across Tower Hamlets and Newham. You will work for East London NHS Foundation Trust, a trust which is CQC rated Outstanding with strong links to Quality Improvement.

The Long Covid Service will work with patients who are experiencing symptoms 12 weeks after an acute Covid-19 infection. Current statistics show Long Covid affects around 1 in 10 people who acquire Covid-19 and common symptoms include breathlessness, fatigue and anxiety. As this is a new condition, more is being learnt constantly and because of this the service is dynamic in responding to changes.

Potential candidates should have current HPC registration and ideally, be current members of CSP and a specialist interest group. You must have experience working within the NHS across a number of clinical areas, with at least 18 months post-graduation experience.

Main duties of the job

The successful therapist will join this new service and support patients via triaging and assessing referrals, offering short-term rehabilitation (including both 1-1 work and group based intervention) and support patients with onwards referrals and self-management techniques. With the field of Long Covid constantly changing, due to an evolving evidence base, the post will suit a dynamic individual who is open to innovation and improvement.

The successful candidate will display a strong commitment to patient centred care and be innovative, creative and dynamic. The post holder will be supported in developing as a Physio and encouraged with professional development from a supportive MDT. Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
  • oDiploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • oMember of HCPC
  • oEvidence of CPD maintained portfolio including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to this post
Experience Essential
  • oClinical experience in a broad range of specialties & the ability to work as a key person within the Long Covid Service MDT.
  • oKnowledge of a broad range of clinical conditions particularly working with those experiencing symptoms including breathlessness, fatigue, anxiety etc.
  • oExperience working in a client centred care, within a multidisciplinary team.
  • oExperience in conducting appraisal & supervision for junior members of staff
Desirable
  • oExperience in clinical audit & service development projects.
  • oExperience running therapeutic groups with an ability to run both digital and face-to-face groups as part of this role.
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • oAbility to manage own workload, flexibility and use initiative to problem solve.
  • oAbility in delivering teaching & training to wide range of multidisciplinary team
  • oGood interpersonal and strong communication skills
  • oAbility to plan and coordinate a range of complex activities in relation to clinical and operational work.
  • oAwareness of potential hazards including frequent verbal aggression and risk of physical aggression in settings such as the clients home, community venues, public transport etc.), whilst ensuring safety of self, client and members of the public.
  • oAbility to assist clients who require assistance with activities of daily living and to apply a rehabilitation approach in a generic health care professional role
  • oInformation Technology skills e.g. word-processing/excel etc.
  • oAn understanding of the current changes within the NHS.
  • oAn understanding of the needs of Tower Hamlet's and Newham's culturally diverse population
  • oUnderstanding of Health and Safety issues in relation to working in a client's home.
  • oKnowledge of statutory and voluntary agencies that may be involved in supporting people at home
  • oEqual Opportunities related to staff and clients
