We are looking for an experienced practitioner to bring their expertise to our team. The post holder will work with individuals, staff team, families and carers as a leader within the MDT to implement, monitor and model interventions that will increase quality of life. The post holder should have a knowledge of PBS and Active Support and be able to analysis data and feedback the results to the wider team.

Main duties of the job

Berkeley House is a 7 bedded assessment and treatment service for people with a learning disability who may exhibit behaviours that challenge and may also have co morbid mental health issues. The post holder will need to demonstrate enhanced competence in decision making, clinical reasoning and the management of clinical needs and have experience in working with individuals who require an individualised and inspirational approach.

This challenging and stimulating role will offer the post holder the opportunity to expand their knowledge through training, regular CPD events, regular clinical supervision and be at the forefront of service design

The full qualification, training & experience requirements for the role are underlined in the Job Description/Person Specification. The hours worked may include unsocial hours and nights dependent on the needs of the service at the time.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes is essential. For qualifying staff the Trust has a Lease Car Scheme in place.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS Essential
  • Professional Registration
  • Diploma in relevant subject area or equivalent (or be prepared to work towards)
  • Knowledge of PBS or Functional analysis
  • Other post registration courses e.g. Non-Medical Prescribing Course, ENB 956 (Management of Violence and Aggression)
  • Qualification in Positive Behavioural Support or Functional Analysis
  • Study to Post Graduate / Masters level in subject such as Autism
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Qualification in Positive Behavioural Support or Functional Analysis
  • Demonstrable post qualification experience in learning disabilities
  • Extensive experience of first line assessments including the assessment of risk
  • Extensive experience of implementing PBS strategies or equivalent
  • Experience of collaboration working with other agencies including the voluntary sector
  • Working knowledge of recovering approach and social inclusion
  • Experience of providing short term evidence based interventions e.g. CBT, Brief solution focussed therapy
  • Involvement in recruitment and selection
  • Experience of working in an inpatient unit
Professional Knowledge Essential
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation e.g. current Mental Health Act legislation, Child Protection legislation and other policy related to mental health
  • Extensive skills in risk assessment and management
  • Knowledge of the different approaches to learning disability assessment
  • Up to date clinical knowledge including risk assessment, dual diagnosis and complex health and social care needs
  • Competent in the Care Programme Approach and associated countywide risk procedures
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of team work and staff development.
  • Broad understanding of National Policy and local implementation, which impacts on the development and provision of services
  • Experience of Group work
  • Knowledge of Child care / protection issues
  • Audit/research/project development in a clinical field
