We are looking for an Occupational therapist to join our Adult Mental Health Team based in Chichester, West Sussex. We are an experienced, friendly and supportive team who are passionate and committed to providing an excellent service to people with mental health problems and their families/carers.

The role is all about improving outcomes for this patient group, working creatively with patients and their carers to co-create care and risk plans that will help them achieve their goals and to live as independently as possible. You must have a genuine interest in working with people who have severe and enduring mental illness and be able to demonstrate a real commitment to providing high quality and compassionate care to patients and their families. You will play an important role in the team as we aspire to provide excellent patient care and develop our services in line with national and local drivers.

The role will include enhancing the therapy programme through 1:1 work (including assessment, intervention and home visits) facilitating groups and enabling service users to access relevant local community resources which would support their discharge.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is able to build effective working relationships and be able to demonstrate a commitment to client centred practice.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have the opportunity to:
  • Provide occupational therapy interventions for service users using evidence based, client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, individually and within a group.
  • Work with a caseload of service users with complex needs, supporting and offering specialist clinical advice and input.
  • Promote and develop the role of Occupational Therapy within the Chichester ATS and lead on Occupational Therapy pathway and service development opportunities across the Rehab pathway.
  • Support the development of Band 5 Occupational Therapist and Band 4 Technical Instructor.
  • Access regular supervision, reflective practice and training and development opportunities including OT specific training offered by the Trust, e.g. Occupational Formulation, Sensory Processing Theory into Practice, Solution-Focussed approaches and external training relevant to the role.
