The CAMHS Eating Disorders Team is a multi-award winning, recovery focused, multidisciplinary community team working with under 18's with Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and committed CAMHS Community Eating Disorder Nurse.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as an influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team offering specialist assessment and treatment for young people and their families suffering with an eating disorder.
You will be able to demonstrate clinical knowledge and interest in the area of eating disorders, and will have experience of working with this client group.
You will receive regular individual and group supervision and support, and will be actively encouraged to participate in continuing professional development and be involved in service development.
In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum payment of £1,066 and a maximum payment of £1,845 per annum (pro rata where applicable).

Job description Job responsibilities
To work autonomously, in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team, to provide child and family-centred treatment in the community, ensuring an intensive, safe, and flexible service to children and young people presenting with an eating disorder in a range of settings including clinics,schools and client's homes. To work with service users to develop individualized goal-oriented care plans, in line with standardized treatment pathways developed by the multi-disciplinary team, from the point of referral through to discharge. This includes liaison with GPs, Paediatricians, schools and CAMHS Specialist Services, ensuring ease of access and support for children and young people with an eating disorder.To support the provision of care with relevant multi-disciplinary team members and across agencies ensuring that users and carers have sufficient information to make an informed choice regarding treatment and support options. To regularly review care plans and treatment pathways to ensure we are meeting the needs of the child and family and identify and refer for enhanced input, where deemed appropriate, for instance to family therapy, individual therapy, Specialist CAMHS, PALMS and Childrens Services. To work closely with the Adult Eating Disorder Service to ensure a seamless transition into Adult Services from the Child and Adolescent Services as appropriate, and liaise with external Tier 2 services to devise step down support plans for children and young people approaching discharge.To act as a care-coordinator to a caseload of young people and work collaboratively and creatively with them and their families to devise a person-centred, goal orientated, recovery plan and participate in family review meetings as part of the role. To participate in, and supervise the planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment plans to ensure a high level of multi-disciplinary care.To liaise with our dietitian to develop eating plans for service users with eating disorders, provide health and nutrition psychoeducation, and arrange support for mealtimes in the home as and when appropriate. To continuously assess and report responses to treatment and interventions to the multidisciplinary team and other care professionals involved to ensure integrated service provision.To work alongside intense Home Treatment Team staff as deemed necessary to prevent hospitalization. To liaise with both acute and specialist inpatient provisions as appropriate to individual cases and develop links to ensure admission and discharge is a seamless process for service users.To ensure risk assessments regarding the physical and psychological safety are undertaken and are regularly reviewed; if risks increase, to liaise with the multidisciplinary team, the child and family, and external organisations as appropriate to ensure patient safety, containment and to reduce distress. To attend care planning meetings at relevant community settings such as paediatric or psychiatric wards, and schools.
Person Specification Training Essential
- Registered Nurse Qualification/Registered with the NMC
- Relevant post qualification in Child & Adolescent Mental Health
- Post qualification experience in Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Nursing Interventions for young people with Eating Disorders
- Knowledge of evidence based practice & it's contribution to practice governance
- Clinical experience and ability to demonstrate application of clinical skills
- Ability to assess young people with eating disorders including their family unit & risk assessment
- Planning and coordination of treatment packages
- Evidence of CPD and commitment to lifelong learning
- To have an understanding of clinical issues in relation to eating disorders
- In-depth knowledge of current best practice in Eating Disorders and Mental Health
- Ability to deal with distressing issues with the young person and family
- Knowledge of menu planning and nutritional interventions in Eating Disorders
Communication Skills Essential
- Clear communication through written, verbal and non-verbal modes including report writing
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of an MDT
- Ability to communicate with young people and their parents

Physical Skills Essential
