The Trust is seeking a clinical academic consultant liaison psychiatrist to join the Hospital Mental Health Team (Working Age Adult) at the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust hospital site. This vacancy is 10 PA substantive post in Liaison Psychiatry (Working Age Adult Hospital Mental Health Team), split as 5 clinical and 5 academic sessions. As part of the academic role, the successful candidate will join an established clinical academic research team to support and develop on-going programmes of clinical and health services research linked to existing programmes in psychological medicine.

Main duties of the job

Clinical role: To work with the Hospital Mental Health Team to ensure that patients referred from general hospital wards to liaison psychiatry team are assessed and managed appropriately and to provide medical expertise and medical leadership within a multi-disciplinary team.

Research role: Pursuing, leading and developing the strategic direction of clinical and mental health services research in the area of psychological medicine. Work in partnership with Head of R&D to exemplify the Trust's values and deliver the Trust's R&D goals as set out in the Research Strategic Plan and develop and implement a vision for future high-quality research within the organisation.

Job description Job responsibilities

This is a clinical academic consultant liaison psychiatrist post. Clinically, the postholder will work with the Hospital Mental Health Team and provide medical leadership and medical expertise to the MDT and ensure that patients referred from general hospital wards are assessed and managed appropriately.

In the academic role the post holder will pursue, lead and develop the strategic direction of clinical and mental health services research in the area of psychological and social medicine, attracting research income on an individual and collaborative basis to underpin high quality research activity and programmes/projects.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MBBS, A higher degree (MD or PhD) in a field related to the medical sciences
Eligibility Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
Knowledge Essential
  • Outstanding knowledge of mental health research pertaining (but not restricted) to either CAMHS, dementia or liaison psychiatry
Teaching Essential
  • Significant experience of teaching effectively at all levels within higher education
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry/ Endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry
