To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessments and treatments to patients in an Outpatient Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Department. This will include assessing and treating patients with a variety of needs, providing physical assistance, advice and emotional support .This post holder will be expected to complete and present a project that contributes to the development of evidenced based practice and/or clinical effectiveness during each 4 monthly period.To participate in both the evening clinics and Saturday clinic rota, once deemed competent, on a minimum of 2 in 4-week basis.

Main duties of the job

1. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work ensuring a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management.

2. To accept clinical responsibility as an autonomous practitioner for a designated

caseload of patients, and organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

3. To undertake the assessment and clinical diagnosis of patients using investigative and analytical skills; formulating an individual management and/or treatment programme using clinical reasoning and a range of treatment skills.

4. To assess patients understanding of treatment proposals and their capacity to give informed consent, and working within the legal framework when patients lack capacity to give consent to treatment.

5. To undertake the continuous assessment and evaluation of the treatment programmes and modify them according to the patients' needs.

6. To be actively involved in patient discharge planning, involving the MDT where necessary, to ensure effective care and safe discharge. Independently make the decision to discharge patients from physiotherapy treatment.

7. To maintain comprehensive and accurate written records in line with Trust and professional standards.

8. To assess and manage clinical risk within own patient caseload to ensure your own and patients safety.

9. To participate in out of hours and satellite clinic duties within the Trust having been assessed as competent.

Person Specification Education/Training/Qualification Essential
  • Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent acceptable to HCPC State Registration.
  • Evidence of relevant on-going professional development since qualification meeting HCPC standards for continuing professional development.
Experience Essential
  • Physiotherapy experience in managing patients in a range of core skill areas i.e. neurology, respiratory and MSK outpatients.
Desirable
  • Some Community experience is desirable
knowledge and skills Essential
  • Good organisational skills e.g. time keeping/management, prioritisation skills.
  • Proactive and self-directed in learning.
  • Professional and accepting responsibility for own actions.
  • Able to use initiative but aware of when to ask for help.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to new/unexpected situations.
